What is the wavelength range of visible light?

Visible light is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that can be perceived by human eyes, and the visible spectrum has no precise range; Ordinary people's eyes can perceive electromagnetic waves with a wavelength between 400 and 760 nm, but some people can perceive electromagnetic waves with a wavelength between 380 and 780 nm. Human eyes with normal vision are most sensitive to electromagnetic waves with a wavelength of about 555 nm, which is in the green region of the spectrum. The range of light visible to human eyes is influenced by the atmosphere. Except visible light and a few other bands, such as radio communication, the atmosphere is opaque to most electromagnetic radiation. Many other creatures can see different light wave ranges from humans. For example, some insects, including bees, can see ultraviolet waves, which is very helpful for finding nectar. A recent study found that visible light can also "see through" the body.

The visible wavelength range of electromagnetic spectrum is about 0.38 ~ 0.76 micron, which is the most commonly used working band in traditional aerial photography reconnaissance and aerial photography mapping. Because the color sensitive range of photosensitive film is just within this wavelength range, black-and-white panchromatic or color images with high ground resolution and interpretation mapping performance can be obtained. However, due to the great limitation of solar illumination conditions and the appearance of infrared photography and multi-band remote sensing, visible light remote sensing has extended its working band to the near infrared region (about 0.9 micron). The imaging mode has also developed from a single photographic imaging to include black-and-white photography, infrared photography, color photography, color infrared photography, multi-band photography and multi-band scanning, and the detection ability has been greatly improved. Visible light remote sensing space photogrammetry marked by the application of framing space camera has great development potential.
