The name of the bookstore is taken from "small hidden in the mountains, big hidden in the city". It is located in the century-old Wu Kang Building on the bustling Huaihai Middle Road, opposite the former residence of Soong Ching Ling. Yin Da Bookstore, hidden in downtown, is quiet and complacent.

As one of the landmark historical buildings in Shanghai, Wukanglou has witnessed the lifestyle of people in different times and the changes of the city in the past century.
