More than 40 years ago, an American photographer came to China, from Beijing to Guangzhou, and took photos all the way south. Compared with most cities in China, Wuxi was far ahead at that time.

In 1970s, farmers in China basically made a living by farming. But Wuxi is a special case. Wuxi's township industry is developed, and many villagers do not farm and work in township factories. At that time, the leader of the brigade said that because Wuxi was close to Shanghai, many industrial production in Shanghai spread here. Most of the products here are sold to Shanghai, and then sold to the whole country and exported.

Although there was no reform and opening up at that time, Wuxi's township development model has gradually taken shape, which is the later Sunan model! Sunan mode refers to the way to realize non-agricultural development through the development of township enterprises in Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou, and Wuxi is an important birthplace of Sunan mode. After the founding of New China, Wuxi established a number of Shedui enterprises on the basis of collective sideline.
