How to shoot seascapes

Lead: I have always had an innate fascination with the sea. There is no better place to hone your photography skills than shooting along the coastline.

The diversity of the coast always brings surprises, even in the most densely populated areas, it is rich in diverse geological landforms. Although the desolate, desolate and tortuous coastline is favored by many photographers, it still has more charm and personality waiting for us to develop. Go back to the sea again and again, even for an hour. Because the environment here is changeable, I will create very successful photos almost every time I come back here.

This photo, taken on Bedrutan steps in Cornwall, is a good example. August here is very beautiful. When I took this photo, the beach was covered with footprints. Suddenly a big wave scattered these footprints, leaving such details and the reflection of the beautiful sky.

We can use the sunset at the end of the day or the sunrise before the sun rises to improve the texture and texture of rocks and water. Not far away, there is a beach in Ferpan. There is no particularly striking coastline on this beach, but the soft pink light creates an out-of-touch scene, which is in sharp contrast with the bright seaweed green.

When shooting at sunrise and sunset, the different brightness of light and shadow means that you can shoot with a slow shutter, and the surge of low tide waves will provide a strong visual impact on the final picture.

Personally, I like to record the dynamics of water flow with photos, and the mist effect caused by long-term exposure looks good.

Although not everyone will like this technology, I believe that photography is a creative process, and there is no absolute right or wrong.

So I like to use the shutter speed of 0.5 to 2 seconds, such as this photo: white sand in Pembrokeshire.

On many occasions, especially at dusk, you have to extend the exposure time because of the weakening of light. This makes it more difficult to add the dynamic effect of water surface.

However, with the upgrading of sensors and the improvement of noise reduction technology, my seascape photos have begun to use the highest ISO800.

As the shutter speed slows down, you can fundamentally change the appearance and temperament of the photo, just as this fog increases the tranquility of the sea. It can be said that this new function allows you to create good photos without spending too much time shooting. The following photo was taken in Portwinkle, Cornwall.

Most coasts will provide photographers with the opportunity to capture the sunrise or sunset. Carefully planning your own itinerary can greatly improve the success rate of taking pictures.

This photo taken in Dorset, Osmin-ton Mill, is a good example. At that time, I knew that only in these few weeks could I see the winter sun rising on the sea. Use tide table to calculate time and plan my trip effectively.

On that day, the sun had fallen below sea level. But the sky is still shining orange, shining on the coast of Kimridge Bay. Use some illuminated orange stones as the foreground to make the details more interesting. At this time, the combination of blue and orange always produces wonderful effects.

You can never incorporate the weather into your shooting plan, but even without the sun, the coast with the sea and wonderful light will always provide you with all opportunities to create interesting pictures.

Carefully compose the composition, and separate the island where the lighthouse is located from the mainland with a small piece of sea.

You often need to try many times, but as your hair flutters in the wind and the sea breeze plays a symphony in your ear, you may have many difficulties to overcome.

In addition to the infinite variables provided by tides, weather and the position of the sun, the coast also provides different geological conditions, which is another reason for loving it.

The sun had just set that night and went into the clouds. Decided to use coastal rocks as the foreground.

When taking such a well-defined photo, we will spend more time carefully framing and composition, so that the rock extends to the visual center.

Having a sturdy tripod is a prerequisite for taking seascape photos, especially if you want to take a longer exposure to create the feeling of water movement.

For many years, I have been using Manfutu 055CLB. Although it looks scarred, it is still very reliable.

The coast is a very harsh environment for our precious photographic equipment, including your tripod.

If the tripod is immersed in seawater, seawater will also damage the equipment.

So it is very important to clean your tripod, especially the tripod lock, with clean water after each shooting.
