What's the matter with Ganlong stone carving being splashed with ink?

Recently, a cultural protection official said that the Qianlong stone carving on the stone archway between Haopu and Beihai Park was artificially splashed with ink.

Beijing Youth Daily reporter learned from Beihai Park on May 26 that the ink appeared in the last century, and the park did not clean it up rashly on the principle of protecting cultural relics and avoiding secondary damage. This year, according to the opinions of experts, Haopu House will be transformed as a whole.

Haopujian, located on the east bank of Beihai Park, is a garden in the garden. The reporter of Beiqing Daily visited and saw that there was a carved stone bridge on the pool leading to Haopu. There is a stone archway nearly 3 meters high at the northern end of the bridge, and there is a stone couplet on the north and south sides of the archway.

It is the northern couplets that splash ink. The inscription of the couplet is "Gao Heng Yu Wei is full of vitality and pine trees are picturesque and welcome guests", which was inscribed by Emperor Qianlong. The word "Yi Ying" at the bottom of the couplet is almost smeared with ink, and the traces of "Song" and "Heng" outlined by ink are clearly visible.

In response to the ink stains on the stone archway in Haopu, Beihai Park responded that the ink stains on the stone archway appeared in the last century, and the park did not rashly clean up the cultural relics in line with the principle of protecting them from secondary damage.

Haopujian Scenic Area has been included in the transformation plan of the Cultural Relics Bureau and is currently under examination and approval. It is expected to be implemented by the end of this year.

This year's overall transformation process will be handled according to the opinions of experts. In terms of cultural relics inspection and protection, the park has taken great precautions in personnel inspection and monitoring, and with the improvement of national quality, there has been no uncivilized behavior similar to that of tourists who do not care for cultural relics in recent years.
