On January 12, a reporter from Beijing Youth Daily learned that Mr. Li Pei, wife of martyr Guo Yonghuai, a famous Chinese linguist, professor of the Department of Foreign Languages ??of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the founder of the "two bombs and one satellite", died due to ineffective treatment for illness. He died in Beijing at 1:26 on January 12 at the age of 99. Mr. Li Pei's farewell ceremony is scheduled to be held at 10:00 on January 17, 2017 in the east auditorium of Babaoshan Funeral Home in Beijing.

Known as "the most beautiful rose of the Chinese Academy of Sciences"

Li Pei was born in 1917 and was admitted to the Department of Economics of Peking University in September 1936. In February 1947, Li Pei went to the School of Industrial and Labor Relations of Cornell University in the United States to study. In February of the following year, she married Guo Yonghuai, president of Southwest Associated University and Cornell University. In 1951, he taught Chinese in the Linguistics Department of Cornell University. In October 1956, Li Pei and Guo Yonghuai returned to China with their young daughter Guo Qin.

In February 1961, Mr. Li Pei was transferred to the University of Science and Technology of China as an English teacher in the Foreign Languages ??Teaching and Research Section. In 1978, Li Pei became the director of the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Office of the newly established Graduate School of the University of Science and Technology of China. Until leaving the podium in 1999, Mr. Li Pei engaged in foreign language teaching at the University of Science and Technology of China for nearly 40 years and made outstanding contributions to foreign language teaching and research.

Li Pei is known as "the most beautiful rose of the Chinese Academy of Sciences" and "a bright light in Zhongguancun". She actively serves scientific researchers and founded hospitals, Western-style pastry shops, etc. At the age of 81, Li Pei founded the "Zhongguancun Forum" and brought various high-level lectures and reports to Zhongguancun. From 1998 to 2011, the General Assembly held more than 600 events. At the age of 94, Li Pei organized seminars for seniors over 80 every Wednesday.

On May 23, 2016, Mr. Li Pei was hospitalized in Zhongguancun Hospital due to lung infection, and was transferred to the China-Japan Friendship Hospital on June 29. At 1:26 on January 12, 2017, Li Pei died at the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing due to ineffective treatment. She was 99 years old.
