List of photographers traveling in China

Speaking of Hony Master Li Shutong, people can't help singing farewell lyrics: "Outside the pavilion, beside the ancient road, the grass is blue and the sky is blue ..."

A famous educator, artist and a generation of monks in China in the 20th century, he left countless spiritual wealth and works of art for the world. During his years of travel, he also left many traces in Ningbo.

From April 28th to May 27th, "Stay in Shang Yong"-Master Hongyi's Calligraphy Exhibition was exhibited in Ningbo Museum.

According to reports, Master Hongyi came to Ningbo eight times from 1924 to 1932, and set foot in Cixi, Yuyao, Zhenhai and Fenghua. His karma with Ningbo is related to Zhejiang No.4 Middle School (now Ningbo Middle School), because the two closest people in the master's life-Xia Mianzun, a close friend, and Liu Zhiping, a disciple, were teachers of this school; It is also related to a monk in Wuxiang. He is a Buddhist monk.

Anxin Toutuo (1863- 1938), whose common name is Fu, whose word is inkstone cloud, was born in Anxin Toutuo. He is a native of Wuxiang, Yinxian County (now around Jiaoqihe Village in Wuxiang County). He was originally engaged in rice industry, and his nature was generous, valuing righteousness over wealth. At the age of 59, he became a monk by shaving. He devoted himself to the education of orphans. He used to be a fundraising director, shaman dean and abbot of Baiyi Temple of Ningbo Buddhist College.

Speaking of Anxin Toutuo, his popularity is not high today, but he was a very popular person in Ningbo during the Republic of China.

1922 On the 15th day of the twelfth lunar month, Anxin Toutuo visited Kang Youwei at Yuyuan Road in Shanghai. Before I left, I remembered that my friend Feng Kai (known as Mu Jun, one of the four gifted scholars in Cixi in the Republic of China) once said that his student Sha Menghai (then 23 years old) made a living in Shanghai. This student is quite spiritual in calligraphy and urgently needs the guidance of Shanghai calligraphy masters. Please introduce Toutuo. So Anxin monk asked Sha Menghai to go with him. When I arrived at Kangzhai, it was unfortunate that Kang Youwei was retiring for illness and failed to do so.

1923 In the autumn, Anxin Toutuo is going to Suzhou on business, visiting Zhou Meigu, a famous local calligraphy and seal engraver, and asking Sha Menghai if he would like to go with him. Shamou promised.

1924 10, Sha Menghai finally met Kang Youwei, who had been admired for a long time, under the recommendation of Anxin Toutuo. At this meeting, Kang Youwei wrote a portrait of an Anxin Toutuo on the spot, and at the same time gave guidance to Sha Menghai's calligraphy, which left a deep impression on Sha. After that, according to Kang Youwei's prompt, he began to write "North Monument". "After writing big characters and participating in Wei Bei, I feel suddenly enlightened and stand up."

Sha Menghai was very grateful for the support of Anxin monk, and specially carved a seal for him to show his gratitude.

19 18, Ningbo Buddhist Orphanage was founded in Baiyi Temple, co-sponsored by celebrities such as Qi Chang, Xian Di, Yuan Ying, Chen Xunzheng and Zhao Zhishi from Shang Gao, Ningbo. It takes in orphans aged 7 to 14 and provides them with food, clothing, housing, cultural knowledge and various skills to help them stand on their own feet. The funds come from donations from monks and nuns in major temples and donations from people in the hospital.

Shortly after the orphanage was established, the dean invited Fu, who is good at communication, to be the fund-raising director. To this end, he went to Shanghai several times to raise money from Ningbo businessmen. , Huang, Du, and others were all persuaded by him, and even took advantage of Chiang Kai-shek's return to Fenghua to visit relatives to ask the generalissimo for money. He persuaded the raised funds to become the main source of funds for the orphanage at that time.

Due to poverty and weakness in modern China, the scale of Buddhist orphanages has been expanding, and the funds are stretched. To this end, Fu volunteered to ask the board of directors to raise funds in Nanyang, where rich overseas Chinese are concentrated. 1920 went to Singapore successfully for the first time, and it got out of hand. He went to Singapore four times, in 1922, 1924, 1926 and 1928 respectively. In order to better engage in fund-raising activities, Fu Yu 1922, who was born with affection, became a monk at Fayuan Temple in Beijing after his second trip to Nanyang. His dharma name is silent, he practices hard and becomes a monk.

1924, Anxin Toutuo was elected as the abbot of Baiyi Temple in Ningbo by the Buddhist community. Under his auspices, Baiyi Temple rebuilt the main hall, and the temple rules after rectification were completely new. 1928, Anxin Toutuo was promoted to the director of Ningbo Buddhist Orphanage, and enjoyed high prestige in Ningbo where monks gathered at that time.

1930 In May, Anxin Toutuo learned that virtual cloud mage from Jizu Mountain in Yunnan would give a lecture at Tianning Temple in Ningbo, and that Master Hongyi planned to come to Ningbo from Wenzhou, and immediately arranged for them to meet at Baiyi Temple.

On June 5th, Baiyi Temple welcomed two masters of Buddhism at that time-Master Hongyi, the 11th Buddhist master, and virtual cloud mage, the great Zen master who was bound by five dharma veins. Therefore, the abbot Anxin Toutuo specially arranged a photographer and left a few photos of Zhang Zhengui by Master Hongyi in Ningbo.

At the meeting, virtual cloud mage and Master Hongyi wrote inscriptions for the host, An Xin monk, respectively. The image praise of "Virtual Cloud Topic" is a poem;

The image praise for Hongyi's topic is four words "aboveboard".

The next day, Xia Mianzun and Qian Junfu (Qian Xuesen's father), colleagues of Master Hongyi of Zhejiang No.1 Normal University, also made a special trip to Baiyi Temple to visit Li Shutong, who is already Master Hongyi.

When did the communication between Anxin Toutuo and Master Hongyi begin? There is no test yet, but it must be earlier than 1930. There are at least three historical exchanges after the two.

After 1929, for three consecutive years, Shaanxi suffered from severe drought, and there were calls for disaster relief. 193 1 April, knowing this situation, monk Anxin couldn't sit still any longer, and he decided to go to Shaanxi to preach the law to help the disaster. At this time, Master Hongyi had just recovered from a serious illness in Shangyu. It happened that at this time, the monk Anxin came to visit, sat down in front of Master Hongyi, described the terrible disaster he saw in the newspaper with tears, and invited the master to go to Xi 'an to preach Buddhism with him. Master Hongyi was moved by the sincerity of Anxin Toutuo and decided to go together.

On May 2nd, Master Hongyi came to Ningbo for an appointment. Liu Zhiping, a disciple of the master who learned the news, rushed to the Yongjiang Ship Terminal and forcibly carried the teacher from the back of the third floor of the "Shanghai-Nanjing Ship", which frustrated the master's plan to go west. He returned to Shangyu after recovering from illness in Ningbo for half a month, and then went to Cixi to prepare for the establishment of Nanshan Law School.

Anxin Toutuo failed to get a master, so he went to Shanghai alone to raise relief funds, and then went to Shaanxi with General Zhu, president of North China Charity Association.

Arrived in Xi 'an on June 10, and was warmly welcomed by people from all walks of life in Shaanxi. Next, Laixin Toutuo went to Ganxian County, which suffered the most.

On June 19, Anxin Toutuo arrived in Ganxian County. He didn't feel pain when he saw that the famine there was much more serious than he thought. When he called various philanthropists in Ningbo, he asked them to donate again in Hui Shi to help with the disaster relief.

On June 30th, this report of Qin Xin Journal was sincere and touching:

Anxin Toutuo distributed all the relief funds of more than 20,000 yuan, and then distributed flour, cotton-padded clothes, seeds for self-help and cattle to Ganxian County before the spring ploughing in the following year. In order to appreciate this peace of mind, Ganxian victims specially built a "stranger shrine" in Wenchang Lane to commemorate him.

After returning from his first trip to Shaanxi, Anxin Toutuo fully supported Master Hongyi to establish Nanshan Law School. At the end of 193 1 10, he also went to the Tiger Run Dinghui Temple in Hangzhou with Master Hongyi, and sealed a shrine for the monk who had just died.

Anxin Toutuo has friends all over Ningbo, Shanghai, Tianjin, Beijing, Wuhan, Xi 'an, Suzhou and even Nanyang and Singapore. The circle of friends covers celebrities in politics, business, literature and art and Buddhism.

For the need of fund-raising, he often asked celebrities to paint or write praises for him, and with the development of the topic, he made many copies of "Peace of mind for Xiang Tuo Zan" and presented them to donors and the author himself. Feng Zikai, Zeng (Zhang Daqian's teacher) and (the pavilion with the same name as Wu Changshuo) painted him. Besides Kang Youwei, Xu Yun, there are Zhang Jian, Feng, Chen Xunzheng, Zhao Shuru, Qian Han, Zhou Meigu and Qiu Shuyuan. Yang Hucheng, Yu Youren, Zheng, and other political figures, and Buddhist monks such as Taixu, Diligence, Baojing, Yuanying and Daojie all had certain contacts with him.

1932, Anxin Toutuo deeply felt that there was no safe house for orphans nearby in Wuxiang, his hometown, and invested heavily to establish Buddhist Huier Hospital in Cao Zhang, Wuxiang. This Huier Institute experienced the baptism of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's artillery fire, stubbornly stuck to 1946, and then merged into Ningbo Buddhist Orphanage, making great contributions to local charity and education in Wuxiang.

1938, Anxin Buddhist monk sat in Baiyi Temple without any disease. 1945 was buried in Yong 'an Cemetery, Bao Zhuang.

This year marks the centenary of Master Hongyi's becoming a monk and the eightieth anniversary of the death of Master Anxin. Going to Ningbo Museum to see Master Hongyi's calligraphy exhibition can not only fully perceive the legendary life of Master Hongyi (Li Shutong), but also understand the touching charity deeds of Anxin Toutuo from one side.
