Reflections after watching the movie "Rear Window"
Yesterday I read a phrase in my English morning reading: When a man and a woman see each other and like each other, they ought to come together, wham, like a couple of taxis on Broadway and not sit around analyzing each other like two specimens in a bottle. From the movie "Rear Window". If two people really like each other, they should meet naturally instead of analyzing each other like specimens. I watched this movie today after my night shift.
The film "Rear Window" was directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starred by James Stewart and Grace Kelly. It successfully created an atmosphere of horror and suspense and explored It reveals the voyeuristic psychology and desires hidden deep in one's heart.
"Rear Window" shows the photojournalist Jeffrey breaking a leg in an accident and he had to spend a period of time in a wheelchair. It was midsummer in New York, and Jeffrey, who had nothing to do, observed his neighbors through the window. Finally Jeffrey discovered something that surprised him.
The name of this movie "Rear Window" means that you are looking at other people's lives and humanity from the other side of the corner, and what you see is every bit of life.
The male protagonist in the plot is called Jeffrey, a reporter who loves photography, and the female protagonist is named Lisa. It is worth mentioning that the entire story of the film is limited to a small place, without the grand scenes and constantly changing locations of commercial blockbusters. We only saw the daily life of our neighbors through a small window. A dancing girl with a charming figure wears a bra and shorts and dances gracefully to do housework every day. A composer who lives alone often sits in front of the piano to compose music. A couple who likes to sleep on the balcony regularly removes their pet puppy from the balcony every day. Hanging upstairs and downstairs, the salesman opposite and his bedridden wife often quarrel. A single woman is always looking for a partner, constantly hoping and disappointed. The director of the so-called "A Small Space Shows the Universe" seems to have deliberately limited the venue to Limited space but unlimited "vision".
"Rear Window" explores the voyeuristic psychology hidden deep in everyone's heart and the various problems caused by it. The male protagonist limits the camera to the room where he is, and the audience is offended. I was itching to run to the opposite room to see what was going on.
Plot of "Rear Window":
1. A salesman kills someone at home.
2. The body was dismembered and removed from the apartment on a rainy night. However, there may have been some oversights and some of the body parts were not cleaned up, so some of the body parts were buried under the garden.
3. The postcard is to create the illusion that the wife is still alive, and the long-distance phone call is to the mistress. In fact, more than 25 minutes into the film, the murderer is on the phone with his mistress, and may be discovered by his wife, who smiles bitterly.
4. The male protagonist later discovered this unreasonable behavior of sending postcards and making phone calls.
5. The tied wooden boxes were clothes. The male protagonist mistakenly thought they might be body parts. The police investigated and confirmed that they were clothes, and believed that the male protagonist was overthinking.
6. The dog discovered some remaining body parts under the garden. The murderer killed the dog and moved the body parts.
7. The male protagonist drove away the murderer, but his girlfriend did not dig up anything.
8. The girlfriend entered the murderer’s house and wanted to show her bravery in front of the hero.
9. The lonely lady drank sleeping pills and wanted to commit suicide, but she was attracted by the piano playing and gave up committing suicide. At this time the murderer also returned.
10. The girlfriend went into the murderer’s room and got the ring. The murderer came back, and the police just arrived.
11. After the nurse took the money to bail the heroine, the hero called his police friend. The friend said there was no need for bail and he would handle it. Then his friend should meet up with the heroine and go to catch the murderer. It turns out that the murderer is at the hero's house, and the hero is thrown downstairs by the murderer.
12. Thorward is going to take us to swim in the East River." This means that the body was thrown into the East River.
13. The police asked the nurse if he wanted to see the remaining body parts. We went to see each other, and the nurse said she didn’t want to see any part of her.
14. The camera showed the conditions of the neighbors.
What is it about busy life that breeds boredom? Bored people lock themselves in their homes and see the world through their little “rear window” as Jeffrey’s home nurse Stella puts it: “Oh my God! People are "almost" turning into a bunch of peeping toms. People should leave their houses and find a new life in the world outside. You stand on the bridge and look at the scenery, and the people watching the scenery are watching you upstairs.
