The G12 has the best image quality, the colors are flattering when shooting portraits, the high-sensitivity is relatively strong, and the maneuverability is very strong. The flip screen is very convenient, but it is a bit unportable, and the wide-angle end is not as good as the LX5.

The LX5 has a stylish appearance, is relatively portable, has a large wide angle, and the super wide angle is good, but it feels a bit yellowish, the high sensitivity is slightly poor, and the noise reduction is too stylish.

The picture quality of the P7000 is okay, the display is excellent, the zoom is relatively large, it does not have a super wide angle, and the continuous shooting is poor.

They are not perfect, and they all have their own tendencies. Relatively speaking, G12 is slightly better, after all, the picture quality is relatively the best.

However, since you can accept their price and don’t mind their size, why not consider the Sony NEX series? For example, the parallel-imported Sony NEX3 (NEX3 is not available in China) is cheaper than the Canon G12 and Nikon P7000, and its image quality and functions definitely beat these so-called "quasi-professional DCs".

The sensor size of NEX3 is about 10 times that of these "quasi-professional DCs", and the image quality is not much worse than Canon 7D and Nikon D300S (the image quality of APS-C cameras is basically the same). Although NEX3 is slightly larger in size (NEX5 will be smaller), the above "quasi-professional DC" also needs a small camera bag, and not many people can easily put them in their pockets.

In terms of functions, NEX3’s panoramic scanning, multi-frame noise reduction, HDR, and 3D shooting (requires firmware upgrade) are all very practical. The scene modes are even richer, and there is also a novice guidance function. Novices who are afraid of the cumbersome operation of SLRs can also easily take good photos with NEX3. In other words, some people say that NEX3 has too few button dials and is not “professional” enough. But for home players, it’s not a good thing. Of course, there are also many hardcore players who love switching and use the NEX series, and its practicality is evident.

Since the emergence of mirrorless cameras, the decline of “quasi-professional DC” is certain. These days, I really don’t recommend spending thousands of dollars to buy something that is not very portable and has average picture quality.
