Are Manchu women in Qing Dynasty really beautiful under French lens?
1840 The invasion of China by Britain and France, the fiasco of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, and Eight-Nation Alliance's burning of Beijing are all portrayal of Qing history. Based on the principle that there are pictures and truth, here are four photos taken by French photographers more than 0/00 years ago, which will be clear after reading them.
Figure 2 mainly reflects the life of ordinary people in the Qing Dynasty. From the pictures, we can clearly see that the life of Qing people is not as rich as that in TV series. The walls of the house seem to be made of mud, and the roof looks like a thatched cottage; Two adults and five children were born thin.
In particular, children have a fear of the French who take pictures; There is no bumper harvest of food or crops around the house, and the whole looks a bit desolate. These seem to reflect the real life of Qing people after the invasion of foreign forces.
The photos in Figure 3 show the attitude of the people towards foreign invaders in the late Qing Dynasty very intuitively. Judging from the content of the photo, it should be a bustling city, but the deserted streets do not match all kinds of "advertisements". Only a few people in downtown are very alert when they see French photographers. Others are hiding at home and dare not come out, just to peek.
After 1840, Britain invaded China twice. 1 time, France was an accomplice. The time to take this photo is not long from the invasion of Britain and France, so people are still very wary of these invaders, for fear that they will hurt themselves again.
Figure 4 can directly see the specific appearance of the Qing people. There are four Qing people in this photo, and they look like ordinary people. These people have different clothes and manners: the man in white on the right wears shabby clothes, especially with a stick in his hand, and looks like he is dead.
The man on the left is wearing a black jacket, and the expression on his face looks very depressed. The whole person has no spirit. It can be seen that the clothes of these four people are relatively shabby, and their lives should be relatively tight. At the same time, they are also very wary of the French, for fear that he will be bad for them.
Figure 5 is a real rich lady in Qing Dynasty. Judging from the photos, her dress and makeup are very expensive, especially the decoration on the top of her head. At that time, only Manchu women would wear it. It looked beautiful. Besides, she must have a high position in this dress.
Figure 6 shows the mother and son of an ordinary family in the late Qing Dynasty. According to legend, they should not be too poor. Both of them are smiling and neatly dressed. Generally speaking, there is still a big gap between the portrayal and appearance of Qing people in photos and those in TV dramas.
