Basic skills of model making-polishing and hand drawing

When the model is assembled, many cracks will appear on the surface of the model, which seriously affects the beauty of the model, so it is necessary to repair the cracks of the model. The main tools are patching, filing and sandpaper. In addition, it should be noted that the model must be glued when it is assembled, otherwise the cracks will easily crack again after being repaired.

Filling soil is an organic resin specially used to fill the cracks in the model. There are also many kinds, the most commonly used is Tamiya Company. There are many large model shops in Guangzhou. When in use, apply an appropriate amount to the joints or depressions that need to be filled with a suitable tool, and apply a certain pressure to fill every corner of the depressions. The composition of the mending soil contains a solution of soluble plastics, so it is not easy to fall off when it contacts the surface of the model. But because the solution inside will volatilize, it will shrink a little after it is completely dry and hard. When we mend the soil, we have to mend more. Make the fill have enough volume to meet the needs of polishing.

After the patch is completely dried (about four or five hours), it can be polished. File with a file first, follow the radian, wait until the file is almost finished (judge for yourself), and then change the sandpaper to polish it. The larger the sandpaper number, the finer the particles. Usually use 400 first, then use 600,800. When using sandpaper above 800 #, it is best to polish it with a little water, so that the surface will be smoother. Sometimes the patch will fill in the concave line of the model, and then the concave line can be carved back with a meat cutter or toothpick when the patch is not dry.

After polishing, a layer of water should be sprayed to fill the soil. It is a liquid, which can be mainly used for inspection, repair and polishing. At the same time, it is light gray, which can be used as the background color of the model. When it is found that it needs to be mended again, it should be left for one day, and then it should be mended and polished by adding water to dry it.

It can be colored after polishing. You can draw by hand or use a pen. The advantage of hand-drawing is that it can draw some fine places, but it is easy to have pen marks when painting in a large area. The spray pen is even when spraying in a large area, and the oil layer is relatively thin, and the effect is better, but it is more troublesome to use color separation paper in a small place. Firstly, the method of hand-drawing is introduced.

Commonly used model paints generally include water-based paints and oily paints. Personally, I think oily ones are relatively quick-drying, hand-painted ones are relatively uniform, and water-based ones are more suitable for pen spraying. It should be noted that water-based paints and oily paints cannot be mixed. And it must be diluted before use.

Stir the pigment to make it uniform before coloring. Dip some paint with a soft brush and scrape it gently at the bottle mouth to adjust the pigment content on the pen. When writing, apply force steadily from left to right. After the first stroke, the next stroke is drawn from left to right, which overlaps the edge of the first stroke a little. When writing, the intensity should be light, and the paint on the pen should have the feeling of flowing gently on the surface. The lighter the action, the less obvious the pen marks. When painting, pay attention to when to touch the paint again. Don't wait until there is no paint on the pen. Try to keep the brush wet.

When the first layer of paint is almost dry (70% to 80%), you can apply the second layer of paint, which is perpendicular to the first layer. This is called "cross coloring". Pay more attention to the strength and direction of the second color. Because the first layer is not dry enough, brush the first layer too hard. When the first layer of paint is not completely dry, it is easier to deal with the pen marks and make them inconspicuous when the second layer of new paint is added.

In addition, if the background color of the model is bright, the hiding power of the painting is weak, and the color will look uneven. So it's best to paint a layer of white or light gray as the background color first. This is the most ideal effect.

The Basic Skill of Model Making —— Drawing Method

This article is reproduced from the hot die studio.

Today, we often make models with pens. Pen spray is a tool for spraying model paint with compressed air. I believe that friends who have been exposed to art will be familiar with it. Paint more evenly with a spray pen, which can make camouflage and aging effects. Pen-spraying is expensive (mainly the air pump is expensive, which costs 400 yuan to get to 500 yuan), but it can be used for a long time if you know how to maintain it. If you want to make a perfect model by hand, I suggest you try to have one.

There are many kinds of pens. All I came into contact with in the market were Junze and Tamiya products. GUNZE's pen is relatively simple to use, the nozzle diameter is fixed, and the nozzle can be replaced. The spray area of paint is controlled by adjusting the knob of the nozzle, and the trigger on the pen body controls the air output. The nozzle diameters are 0.2 and 0.5. I am also using this pen at present. Tamiya's pen spray is double-effect. Pressing the trigger can control the gas output, while the pull-back force controls the area of painting. When in use, both should be controlled in proper positions at the same time, and it takes constant practice to control them freely.

Before coloring, you must first adjust the paint, and the most important thing is to dilute the paint. In order to control the paint concentration, a straw is generally used to control the amount of solvent. How much solvent to dilute depends on the situation. Generally, the proportion of oily paint in Tamiya is slightly less than that of paint, which is close to 1: 1. Water-based paint only needs a small amount of solvent. If the paint is too thick, you can increase the air pressure to match, if the paint is too thin, you can reduce the air pressure and extend the distance from the model surface to match.

Try spraying first, and then use spray strokes. This can test the concentration and area of paint and the spraying effect. If there is a problem, we should improve it immediately. Don't try it with a model, you can try it with cardboard or newspaper. Adjust the nozzle angle, air pressure and spraying distance through trial spraying.

After the test spray is no problem, it can be officially colored. The method of coloring is the same as hand painting, and it is a cross painting. The model can be evenly sprayed by cross spraying, and it will not be piled too thick.

Generally speaking, the model is assembled first, then polished and then painted. But some parts need to be colored first, so make good use of color separation paper. The application of color separation paper is very important for coloring with a pen. The spraying area can be controlled by using color separation paper. Especially when we do it by hand, we often use color separation paper to stick it according to the radian of the model and cover the colored places. This step is sometimes more time-consuming than coloring, so everyone must be patient.

Dry scanning method

This article is reproduced from the hot die studio.

In order to make our model more solid, we treated its surface. WASH (that is, the saturation line) is used to emphasize the concave part of the model surface to make it more concave, and dry scanning is used to emphasize the convex part to make it more convex. After the surface of the model is treated by these two technologies, the concave-convex contrast will be very obvious, and all the details can be presented beautifully. The following faces are illustrated with pictures.

1. Basic tools 1 From left to right are enamel paint, oil book pigment, model brush, white cardboard and cotton cloth. Theoretically, all kinds of paints can be dry-cleaned, but if the effect is good or bad, you should choose a paint with slow drying speed and fine particles. HUMBROL's enamel can be said to be the most widely used model paint in terms of its application effect and world popularity. Compared with other crystal brands of enamel, HUMBROL has fine particles and uniform coating, which is very suitable for dry scanning. If you have been using other brands for dry cleaning, then I suggest you try this brand instead, and the effect is absolutely satisfactory.

2. Dig out some thick paint deposited on the bottom of the bottle with a small stick for use. For this reason, the minimum amount of paint particles should be kept on the brush during dry scanning, so that the effect is good, and in order to take into account the color saturation, this deposited high-concentration paint is used. In terms of dosage, the amount used for dry cleaning is very small, and a bottle of paint can last for a long time. Therefore, I usually use general paint and dry cleaning paint separately (that is, buy a few bottles of dry cleaning) and dry clean them at any time with the sediment at the bottom of the bottle.

3. In addition to HUMBROL's enamel paint, squeeze out some oil paints. As mentioned above, fine particles and slow drying speed are the selection factors, while oil painting pigments are not only fine particles but also slow drying speed, so they are also a good dry scanning material. In the washing technique, oil painting pigment has always been the protagonist, and now it is also inserted in the dry sweeping technique, so you should be able to understand how important oil painting pigment plays in the model's coloring field, so don't doubt its role, go to the art material store and buy some to use!

4. Before dry scanning, the model should be cleaned first. If you dry-sweep before washing, the solvent used in washing and the action bag wiped must have the effect of completely destroying dry-sweep. When we wash, the model is like taking a bath all over. In order to make the subsequent "make-up" (dry sweeping) completely attached without being affected, it must be completely dried after washing (at least for a whole day) before the dry sweeping step can be carried out.

5. Choose a dry (at least one day without cleaning or contacting with solvent) pen with pigment. The brush for dry cleaning should not be too long. If you are sure, you can trim off about 1/3 of the bristles. The softer the brush, the better the effect will be. It will be helpful to prepare several high-quality brushes.

6. Brush the painted brush back and forth on a piece of cotton cloth. This is to brush off most of the paint on the brush, and only a little paint is evenly attached to the bristles. The focus of dry cleaning is the concentration of pigment and the amount of pigment on the brush. Simply put, the drier the brush, the better. The drier the brush strokes, the softer the effect, which is more in line with the requirements of dry scanning. On the contrary, if the brush still contains a lot of pigments, the more strokes it sweeps, the brighter the amount, and the effect will become "wet sweep". You can compare the effects of different "dryness" in different schools through your own experiments.

7. The picture shows the method of checking the amount of paint on the brush in a school. Sweep back and forth on a blank sheet of paper with a brush. If there are obvious paint marks, it means that there is too much paint on the brush, and some should be brushed off with cotton cloth. If there is a faint and uniform color, the concentration is appropriate.

8. Gently sweep the treated "dry" brush back and forth on the washed model surface. There is no so-called standard for the direction, frequency and intensity of scanning, which is completely determined by your needs. The only thing that can be determined is that the more times you sweep, the more obvious the effect will be (if the intensity is too heavy, it will include painting, and the effect may not be good). At first, you may not see any effect or color (don't worry! This is the best case, because you can see the effect when you sweep it, which means there is too much paint on your brush. However, with the increase of sweeping times, all kinds of protruding edges and corners on the surface of the model are stained with light paint, which makes all kinds of detailed structures "float" obviously.

9. The color choice of dry sweep is purely personal preference, and there is no hard and fast rule. The main purpose of dry scanning is to emphasize the outline of projection, so any color can be used as long as this goal is achieved. The principle adopted by most colleagues is light color. There is a simple reason. Because the reflected light of any color object is very light (the lightest light is white), light earth color, light green, light gray, yellow, white and other colors are most commonly used. However, there are many similarities. When making light-colored models, using dark colors such as dark gray and black as dry scanning colors can also make the surface very vivid. Sweep the front wall with light green for the first time, then use khaki and a little white oil painting pigment to make it light khaki (the oil painting pigment can be mixed with Hambro pigment) as shown in the figure, and use this color for the second dry sweep.

10. Carry out a second dry sweep to make the surface details more obvious. In order to make the work more layered, it is usually dry-swept several times, and each time the color is lighter. For example, green chariots can be painted in the order of light green, light soil, yellow and light gray. As the color becomes lighter, the dry scanning area will be reduced and selected, which is tantamount to emphasizing the three-dimensional sense of the model as a whole. Otherwise, the whole model is scanned with the same color everywhere, and there is no "light weight" to be divided. The whole chariot looks like the result of the same light, without highlights and shadows (the depth of dry sweep). Of course, the three-dimensional sense will be greatly reduced, and the meaning of "artificial light" will be lost. When repeating dry sweeping, pay attention to the phenomenon of "wet sweeping" caused by too much paint in the brush. When this happens, you have to get a new brush (so you have to prepare more dry brushes to deal with it).

1 1. Only the background color is sprayed on the left side. Right side cleaning and dry sweeping.
