The story introduction of "Fallen Leaves Return to Roots": Lao Zhao (Zhao Benshan) is a farmer in his fifties. Casting method

Regarding the choice of the hero, Zhang Yang said that Zhao Benshan was his first thought, and he thought that the image of Zhao Benshan should be the feeling of migrant workers. Although they didn't know each other before, Zhao Benshan also thought that Zhang Yang's films seemed to be written for him, so he agreed.

Zhang Yang said that because of the characteristics of this film, all the other characters except Zhao Benshan played for two or three days and called to help shoot a series of plays. These actors have a good personal relationship with Zhang Yang, and they belong to the nature of helping.

Qiwen Hong, who plays "Zombie" Lao Liu in the film, was selected because all the shooting locations of the whole play were selected by Qiwen Hong together with the director, photographer and artist. In the process of choosing scenes, director Zhang Yang asked him to audition. After the audition, Qiwen Hong successfully won the role and let Zhao Benshan carry him for more than two months.
