Summary of April 30, 2009 [Edit this paragraph]

Sarah Kappel and Peter Kappel, who are over 20 years old, have a happy family composed of two sons and a daughter, but when their child Matt was diagnosed with cancer, the happy family of five suddenly fell into sorrow and trouble. Sarah and Pete decided to cure the child's illness, so they sought medical advice and medicine everywhere to find a cure. They tried a variety of treatments, but Matt's cancer still showed no signs of recovery. Until they met a new treatment, it seemed that Matt really got better, and the couple were very happy, but the treatment place was far from where they lived. So Sarah and Pete decided to move their home to a treatment center to treat Matt. They're at the Connecticut hospital.

Treatment is very expensive. After several years, Sarah and Pete spent almost all the money in the family, taking Matt to the doctor every day and taking care of their two underage children, Billy and Mary. The couple work very hard. They are under great pressure both mentally and economically. Fortunately, several children are considerate and always try their best to help their parents, which gives Sarah and Pete great comfort and motivation. They firmly believe that they can cure their children. But since moving to a new home, Matt has always seen or heard some supernatural things. At first he just felt that he was hallucinating, but slowly he found that those things were as real as he was.

One day, Matt took Billy and Mary to play hide-and-seek in the house, and Billy and Mary both hid. But Billy suddenly saw a ghost in his hiding place, and he couldn't help shouting. Then there was Mary, who was almost stuck on the floor above the attic. As a result, Matt and Wendy found a small box hidden in the floor. It turns out that this house used to be a morgue, and Ramsey ekman was the owner here. He believes in supernatural things and devotes himself to studying things about the soul. His assistant Jonah is also a psychic and is responsible for helping him. But in a psychic ceremony, Ramsey ekman and others were accidentally burned to death, and Jonah's whereabouts were unknown.

Jonah is a ghost who haunts this room. He wants to enter Matt's body. Fortunately, a priest that Matt knew in the hospital said that people will see some "people" when they are dying, but they are all ghosts, and healthy people can't see them. After that, he took Jonah's soul in a shepherd's way, and Matt escaped. But Jonah didn't want to kill Matt. He just wants to help Matt. But at this point, Matt was dying. However, the priest called to say that he had made a serious mistake. The man caught the dead man's eyelids not to let them see, but to make them invisible. Now, he has taken Jonah's soul away. The souls of those who died are only angry and need to leave at once! At this time, the ghost began to retaliate. Wendy was taking a bath at that time. A ghost wrapped Wendy in a shower curtain and tried to suffocate her, but Wendy's head broke free from the shower curtain and she didn't die. Matt ran home from the hospital. He cut down the house with an axe, and all the hidden bodies in the house were exposed. Matt set fire to the bodies so that they could all rest in peace and calm their resentment. However, the dead still stood beside Matt. Sarah rushed into the room, looked at the room full of dead bodies and hugged her son. She seemed to feel something, and read one of the most famous Christian hymns, the poem of King David's father: "The Lord is my shepherd, and I will never lack." He made me lie down on the green grass, led me to quiet waters, revived my soul, guided me in the righteous path for his name's sake, and helped my son. "After that, the ghosts remembered the scene when they were alive, were moved and disappeared. Finally, Matt was saved by Sarah. The shepherd came, and there was another "man" Jonah beside him, but Matt couldn't see Jonah, because he has recovered and become healthy now! This movie is actually a Hollywood movie that wins by atmosphere. Well, the background music is also very good (very suitable for the atmosphere), so be prepared! Ha ha. [Edit this paragraph] Movie tidbits

The film is based on a real case, which caused a great sensation in the United States that year.

The overall structure of the film comes from the documentary "Haunted Mortuary" produced by Discovery Channel.

The film adopts the way of "dynamic poster" in propaganda, which is actually a trailer-like poster made by FLASH technology. The poster is also placed in printed advertisements, such as light boxes and stairwells, where this technology can be applied. [Edit this paragraph] behind-the-scenes production

Creative inspiration from real events

The Haunted Mortuary follows the storytelling tradition similar to The Exorcist and The Exorcist, and its creative inspiration also comes from real events. 1987, a very terrible thing happened in a small town called Shasington in central Connecticut. A family has just moved into a house that has been vacant for a long time. Soon they found a small cemetery in the backyard and a room in the basement to store the bodies. The most terrible thing is that all the drawers are filled with some strange and inexplicable photos of corpses. It turned out that when their family returned to the 19 era, it was a funeral home. After learning this fact, the family immediately began to be disturbed by some unexplained supernatural phenomena: strange sounds, sudden changes in temperature, and frequent appearance of mysterious people tortured them and almost completely destroyed their minds and rationality. From beginning to end, they didn't know that their experience would be recorded and become the most extreme and credible surreal experience in American history, and The Haunted Mortuary was adapted from this real and traceable case.

The film began to enter the formal production process in 2003, all of which originated from the fact that producer Andrew trapani happened to see a TV documentary about some incredible terrorist events that Carmen Reed and her family experienced. Soon, trapani, who seldom watches TV, found himself totally addicted to it. When he kept staring at the end of the documentary, he immediately decided to set out to look for this reed in order to get first-hand story material from her. After listening to Reid's account of his previous experience, he was more detailed than that on TV. Trapani and another producer, Paul Brooks, felt an indescribable shock, because they had never heard of what she had experienced before, and they felt obliged to tell this story to more people.

Peter Conville, the director of this film, also realized that they had found a very special and compelling story introduction. Conville said that because these things happen in real life, they will become more and more horrible. When watching a movie, it will be really scary to experience a horrible moment and connect the same scene with the real world. "

For two screenwriters, adam simon and Tim Metcalfe, the haunted morgue is a perfect and timely opportunity to make good use of their obsession with supernatural phenomena. Metcalfe said that he and Simon are particularly interested in literary works and movies that describe mysteries or mysterious things, and this experience has also played a positive role in their script creation. Simon and Metcalfe are big fans of Victorian horror and spiritual movement. They skillfully integrate rich knowledge into the background story that the script pays attention to, and immediately create a creepy fear from the inside out.

Because he made an animated short film "Ward 13" which won many awards, the director Peter Conville received great attention from Hollywood filmmakers. Paul Brooks recalled that this short film made by Conville showed deep-rooted fear and told a very spiritual story, so he had reason to believe that Conwell had sincere and original ideas. As far as this film is concerned, what he kept from the beginning is that all the content must be based on reality, not one person's experience, but the experience of the whole family.

Coincidentally, Peter Conville himself is also looking for a suitable real-life work, which should be enough to make a feature film. Conville said that in the animation world, you must have a clear mind before shooting, and every scene should be arranged properly. But when it comes to live-action movies, what needs to be done is to cooperate and interact with actors, because they have their own ideas and will make some different reactions to certain environments. In his view, this kind of cooperative relationship is great, and everyone involved in the filming has really integrated into the world.

Explore the complex relationship between parents and children

Virginia Madsen, nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, plays Sarah Campbell in the film. Prior to this, Madsen had occupied an unparalleled position in the hearts of horror fans because of his outstanding performance in 1992 bernard ross's "Roar of the Red Wind". Madsen said that when she got the script of Haunted Mortuary, she saw that it was such a great story, and Sarah was also an extremely complicated female character. To tell the truth, she was scared half to death by the content in the script. In Madsen's view, Sarah is very similar to the prototype Carmen Reed on which she is based, and both belong to the kind of pious women with strong religious beliefs. When they experience a crisis of loyalty in their own home, what they want is to maintain the integrity of a family.

However, Virginia Madsen is also very honest. She cooperated with a filmmaker as a director for the first time. The middle process not only made her dissatisfied, but also had several unpleasant memories. However, this kind of cognition doesn't apply to Peter Conville at all. He made thorough preparations in advance, including the visual analysis of the film, which completely dispelled Madsen's worries. She said that she found that Conville and she have many similarities, for example, they both have a childlike innocence that is rarely shown. When they are together, they are like two big children who are out of tune. She especially likes horror movies, so does he. When she saw the animated short film directed by him, she couldn't help watching it again. It was full of things she liked. So she found that they really hit it off, maybe a little childish, but she could feel a strong message from Conville that he really knew what kind of movie he was making.

In the dark atmosphere created by The Haunted Mortuary, Virginia Madsen provides a kind of maternal protection for other little actors who play children, and gives them the greatest help and support in the film making process. She was nicknamed "Mother V". Amanda crew, who plays Sarah's niece Wendy in the film, said that when Madsen filmed this embarrassing story, she knew they really needed her support. Just like the mother in the film, she is a warm beacon on the set, gently guiding them in the right direction.

For another young actor, kyle gallner, what he needs to face in the movie is a terrible challenge. Gellner's most famous work before was the TV series Veronica Mars. Matt played by Gellner this time is not the leading actor, but he has to bear a huge emotional span. Matt must firmly grasp the tense relationship with his mother, and at the same time endure Jonah's constant visits as a ghost-like and very evil boy. Gellner described that this part needs to show a very strong sense of compulsion and fear, and the pressure is really great. Although they were just making a movie, he still felt in a trance, as if all these terrible things were true.

As an "experienced person", kyle gallner, 22, shared many childhood experiences with filmmakers to ensure that Matt's problematic character is as real as possible. Peter Conville said that Matt in the film is just 16 years old, while Gellner is already 16 years old. The memory of that era is not too far away for him, and he is very happy that he showed 65440 so easily. What he has to do is to help him find a way to get into the play, hoping that he can feel as much as possible that he is in a real world, not acting, so at that moment, he believed that everything that happened was true. However, he still firmly believes that it is Gellner's acting talent that makes the role of Matt as vivid as it is now.

Virginia Madsen has a son of her own 14 years old. She attaches great importance to the complexity of the mother-child relationship described in the script. When Matt keeps experiencing more and more horrible images, he doesn't know how much to say to his mother, because he doesn't want her to feel sad and uneasy about her own affairs. Madsen said that most of the films around the stories between parents and children will be less and less. As a mother, what she wants to say is that this statement is wrong, and the psychology of teenagers is much more complicated than this. In a word, he found that the mother-child relationship between Sarah and Matt in this film is closer to reality.
