On February 14, 2015, the name of Chenzhou Airport was officially approved by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and its full name is "Chenzhou Beihu Airport".

In 2011, Chenzhou Airport was included in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan for the Development of China's Civil Aviation" as a preliminary research project. On September 28, the Civil Aviation Administration of China officially decided to review the Chenzhou Airport site from October 13 to 15. The review team conducted on-site inspections of the three pre-selected sites in Chenzhou: Huatang, Qiaokou and Lianxing, and fully demonstrated and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of the pre-selected sites.
