Hou Dengke's introduction
Hou Dengke (1950-2003), a native of Fengxiang, Shaanxi Province, is the coordinate figure of contemporary documentary photography in China, leaving a valuable record for the social changes in contemporary China, especially the profound internal and external changes in contemporary rural society in China. Representative works include Mike, Women in the Yellow Land, Sifang City, etc. The Hou Dengke Documentary Photography Award named after him is the first documentary photography project run by the people in China.
