How was the lost Guge Dynasty discovered after more than 300 years of silence?

The Guge Dynasty began in the early 20th century and attracted the attention of historians, archaeologists and western Tibetan experts, but its environment was rarely investigated.

It was an Englishman, McVos Young, who went to Tibet for archaeological investigation of cultural relics in the early days.

19 12 years, he visited the ancient city of Guge and the Tolin Temple in Zada, and wrote the article Tolin and Zabujean's Travel in Western Tibet, which was published in Miscellaneous Notes of Punjab Historical Society in India.

In 1930s, Italian Tibetan scientist Du Qi visited the ancient city of Guge while inspecting the historical sites in western Tibet. In his book Crossing the Himalayas, he published some photos he took.

Photographer of China Central News Film Studio, during his trip to Guge on 1957, he shot and edited the documentary "Guge", which shocked the experts of cultural relics and archaeology. However, archaeologists in China have never been able to reach this mysterious ancient ruins alone.

Until June, 1979, Tibet Cultural Relics Management Committee and Xinjiang Cultural Relics Management Committee * * * jointly went to Zaburang to make a preliminary observation and record of the site.

This is the first scientific archaeological investigation of the Guge site, and the results of the investigation were written as "Investigation of the Guge Kingdom Site in Ali Area", which was published in 198 1 Cultural Relics Magazine.

In September of the same year, architectural survey professionals surveyed the ancient city of Guge. Seven years later, they published the architectural sites of Guge Kingdom.

1985 made a comprehensive and in-depth investigation of the ancient city of Guge Kingdom. This year, the Tibet Cultural Relics Management Committee organized a special investigation team to investigate the relevant situation of the site. At this time, Guge Kingdom has been extinct for 350 years.

The soil in the ruins of national subjugation has become fragile and is being crushed bit by bit and turned into dust. The prominent part of broken walls has also been worn away, and the former capital is disappearing. Therefore, the archaeological and conservation work of Guge site is imminent.

Three years later, Guge Ancient City was published in two volumes. This book completely records the archaeological process and discovery of Guge site, which caused great shock in the archaeological community and was highly praised.

Since then, there has been a Poari fever and a Guge fever in the cultural circles in western Tibet, and the ancient city of Guge, which has been silent for more than 300 years, has once again become lively.
