Behind the scenes production of the abyss of death

Underwater audition

The audition of actors is held in the director's office or studio. But because of the particularity of Cave, the director moved the audition place to the swimming pool. Moreover, the actors who pass the audition have to undergo strict diving and physical training, because in Grierson's vision, all the stunts should be done by the actors themselves. Because underwater shooting is quite dangerous and unexpected, only by exercising well can accidents and dangers be avoided.

Shooting process

Because Cameron's 3D camera is bulky, underwater photography is complicated, and sometimes it takes 12 hours to shoot continuously, and the available lens is still only 40 seconds to 1 minute. A model of an underwater maze was built in the swimming pool of the studio, about 8×6 feet. In order to avoid sunlight, we choose to work at night. Because the camera is too heavy, it is obviously unrealistic to hold it underwater, so I found a lot of large mechanical equipment to fix and move it.
