In Yueqing, Wenzhou, there is also a woodcutter. When he heard that the capital was trapped, his fellow villager Zhuo Shi Lang respected his death and threw himself into the water. Both firewood escape its name.

Zhuo Shilang is Zhuo Jing, a native of Ruian, Wenzhou, the second best, and the right assistant minister from the official to the household department. He is a loyal minister of Wen Jian. He was arrested after the "Battle of Jingnan" and would rather die than surrender. He was killed by Ming Chengzu and wiped out the three clans.

The woodcutter was startled and said, "Is the emperor safe?" A: "Burn the palace and set yourself on fire." The woodcutter cried and jumped into the lake to die.

The narrative here is a little more detailed and vivid.

In the fourth year of Wenjian in Ming Dynasty (1402), Judy, the prince of Yan, was defeated in Nanjing, and Zhu Yunwen, the emperor, burned his palace and committed suicide (biography). After Judy ascended the throne, many ministers of Wen Jian Dynasty were unyielding, and there were many martyrs, which was called "Renwu martyrdom" in history.

Why did an ordinary woodcutter in Shan Ye, who was far away from state affairs, react so violently to Judy's usurpation that he threw himself into the lake? If you are a native of the seaside, you must know your neighbors. Why "I don't know who"?

In this regard, predecessors have long been skeptical. In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, the historian Ji wrote in Volume 21 of Ming Beilue:

On behalf of the emperor, no one drowned himself. There is a woodcutter named Shiyi in East Lake. But knowing that he was not an official of Hou, he changed his surname and worried about the clan, so he died.

Ji suspected that the woodcutter might be a senior official of Hongwu Dynasty or Dynasty. For some reason, he lived incognito in Linhai. In order not to be persecuted by Judy and not to involve his family, he committed suicide. If so, the woodcutter with a story is not as simple as people think.

Of course, this is just a guess. As for the truth, it is nowhere to be found.

More than 200 years later, at the end of the Ming Dynasty, Huang Zongxi, a great scholar, went to his friend Chen's hometown to celebrate the New Year in the sea. Accompanied by Chen, he visited the East Lake Woodcutter Temple and wrote a poem "East Lake Woodcutter Temple":

The woodcutter in the East Lake is in a divine position, worshipping the shadow of the cold plum. Surnames and official names are gorgeous in the world and have no basis for thousands of years.

Famous people are nothing more than temporary fame, most of them will be gone in the blink of an eye, and no one will remember them again, while the woodcutter in East Lake, with no name and no evidence, can be circulated for thousands of years. It has been more than 600 years since the early Ming Dynasty, and the story of the woodcutter in East Lake will surely continue to spread.

In the sixth year of the Ming Dynasty (1572), Zhang, the magistrate of Taizhou, and Zhou Siji, the magistrate of Linhai County, ordered Zhou Siji to build a woodcutter's temple in the East Lake of Linhai, and asked Shangshu, the criminal department of Nanjing, and He Kuan, a native of Linhai, to write an inscription. Since then, the woodcutter temple has been moved, destroyed and rebuilt many times. The Qiaoyun Pavilion in Donghu Park was rebuilt in Linhai City in 2000, but the Woodcutter Temple has disappeared.
