Declaration of the General Assembly of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing

On July 6th, 2008, 2 1 International Conference on Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing closed in Beijing. Before the closing ceremony, dormann, President of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, read the Beijing Declaration, advocating the peaceful use of geospatial technology for the benefit of all mankind. This is the first time since 19 10 established ISPRS. The Beijing Declaration pointed out that Earth observation technology and means have been widely used in the fields of social and economic sustainable development, disaster prevention and mitigation, biodiversity protection, cultural heritage protection, global and environmental climate change monitoring, energy exploration and management, land use and land cover inventory, food safety, sustainable use of water resources, human living environment and health. Great progress has been made in acquiring, processing, interpreting and analyzing aerial images, airborne and ground lidar systems, imaging radar technology, small satellites and earth sensor networks.

Participants said that photogrammetry, remote sensing and spatial information systems are essential to ensure the sustainable development of the 2/kloc-0 century. Non-governmental organizations, especially the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, have the responsibility to promote the peaceful use of space technology, deeply develop image resources and serve the social welfare and sustainable development of all countries. Specifically, the Beijing Declaration aims to give full play to the role of photogrammetry, remote sensing and geographic information science in the development of human society in the 2 1 century, further strengthen the work of spatial data acquisition, system integration and technological innovation, and provide comprehensive solutions to major problems faced by mankind such as population expansion, resource shortage and environmental degradation.

Participants called on all countries to fully invest in and actively participate in scientific research, development, education and training, capacity building and infrastructure construction in this field; Promote the sharing of imaging and ranging technologies and data for scientific research and peaceful purposes; Encourage scientific and technological personnel, the government, the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, international organizations and institutions to carry out constructive dialogue and close cooperation.

The International Conference on Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, held every four years, is one of the largest and highest-level academic conferences in the field of international surveying and mapping. This session lasted for 9 days, and many activities were held, such as academic reports, technical visits, and international surveying and mapping technology exhibitions.
