Can photography assistants learn anything?

Why is it said that you can learn something in a photo studio? I am now working as an assistant in a photo studio. What I do is to work in the shop from eight o'clock every morning, and I am always busy at night. During this time, I spent all my time lighting, laying skirts, looking at details, picking up things and packing things. Don't expect photographers to teach you anything. At most, I will teach you how to polish and how to spread a skirt, because these are all things you should do as an assistant. They will slow down if you don't teach them. You can learn lighting in ten days at most.

Personally, I think it's really a waste of time to be an assistant. It is better to buy a camera to explore for yourself, check posture online and learn lighting online. Now I'm very tired from morning till night, and I don't have time to teach myself to sleep when I get home from work every day. Get up early the next day, or you can work as an assistant in a photo studio. I don't know how hard it is after all. Now I'm going to quit my job and buy a camera to take pictures by myself.
