The United States has six consulates in China. Consulate is the general name of the consular representative office of a country in another country and a city. According to the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, consulates are divided into consulates-general, consulates-general, vice-consulates and consular offices, which are responsible for the management of local nationals and other consular affairs. In order to embody the principle of diplomatic equality, two countries generally agree to establish a consulate in a city of the other country at the same time, but one of them may not actually open it. At the same time, when the two countries break off diplomatic relations, they will definitely cancel their embassies, but not necessarily their consulates.
