The working model of Shanshui

The Shanshui Nature Conservation Center was established in 2007. It is a local private nature conservation organization in China. The team has more than 20 years of experience in scientific research and practice of nature conservation. . Shanshui cooperates with communities, academic institutions, governments, enterprises, and media, and is rooted in the Sanjiangyuan and southwest mountainous areas (Qinghai, Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanxi) with the richest biodiversity in China, assisting local innovative practices in community-based conservation. The model makes ecological protection a daily public matter in the community, integrates it into local cultural values ??and economic life, and promotes policy recognition and support for community protection. At the same time, Shanshui insists on long-term conservation-oriented multidisciplinary research, traditional knowledge discovery, and ecological monitoring in the wild, using this as a basis to evaluate the value and threats of ecosystems and their services, and to provide guidance on the basis of research and practice. The government, communities and conservation circles recommend effective and pragmatic conservation measures and effectiveness evaluation methods to provide a basis for the formulation of policies and laws. Shanshui also hopes to become a bridge between nature and the urban public, allowing the public to know, recognize and give back to the value of nature, while simultaneously supporting local communities to become powerful guardians of their natural homes and benefit from protection. Shanshui's work is divided into three modules: practice station, research institute and value chain.

Shanshui is registered in Beijing and has project bases in Chengdu, Sichuan and Xining, Qinghai. It has more than 40 full-time employees and brings together outstanding talents in natural and social scientific research, environmental protection, communication, management, etc. . There are also 20 volunteers from different fields such as business, finance, charity, education, art, design, advertising, media, etc. who have been serving the organization for a long time. In 2012, Shanshui participated in the selection of advanced units of Chinese social organizations sponsored by the Civil Affairs Bureau and obtained 5A qualifications.
