Practical uses of element bromine
In recent years, my country has used tungsten bromide, a compound of bromine and tungsten, to create new light sources. Bromine tungsten lamps are very bright and small in size, and have begun to be used in film photography, stage lighting, etc. in our country. At high temperatures, the iodine vapor in iodine-tungsten lamps is red, which absorbs part of the light and affects the luminous efficiency. However, bromine vapor is colorless at high temperatures. Therefore, bromine has gradually replaced iodine to create new tungsten halide light sources.
In organic chemistry, bromine is also very important. Bromobenzene, bromoform, bromonaphthalene, and bromoethane are all commonly used reagents. In addition, bromine is also indispensable when manufacturing the famous gasoline anti-shock agent-tetraethyl lead, because to synthesize tetraethyl lead, the intermediate product-ethylene dibromide must first be created.
