One day, he got a chance to make a fortune: smuggling gasoline on the Istanbul-Baghdad train. In need of financial support, he and his son Zara went to visit their old friend and the "godfather" of the Gypsies, Gega Pitai. But it turned out that Matt Gao was not qualified for the job at all. His business was taken away by the young gangster Dadan, and he still owed money to others. Matt Gao had an idea and came up with a clever plan: to propose to Dadan's sister "Bird Lady" on behalf of his son Zara. But in fact Zara is passionately in love with another gypsy girl, the blonde Ada. On the wedding day, everyone was in high spirits except Zara and Ada. While everyone was enjoying the joy, the bride ran away from the wedding without anyone noticing! On the way to escape, she met and fell in love with Pete. Zara, who had broken off her engagement, took her sweetheart Ada down the Danube River.

The young Chaile lives with his beloved woman and his father Marco. Marco was originally a gangster with nothing to do, but this time in order to have some funds to do black market business, he deceived Ge Jia, his father's close friend for many years: saying that his father had passed away and he had no one to rely on, so he could only look up to him and hope that Ge Jia Jia can give him some help. On the other hand, Marco becomes a partner with another villain, Darden, hoping to successfully launch his own black market business. However, as luck would have it, Marco was knocked unconscious during the delivery process. When he woke up, the goods had already disappeared! Darden came to the door and asked Marco to make amends for this matter, on the condition that Chaier would marry his sister Eftida, who he could not marry. With no choice but to do so, Marco had no choice but to agree. However, Eftida likes gentle and slender men, not Chaier's type; and Chail already has her heart set on something. So the two agreed to get married and agreed to get married. But secretly they had other plans; on the wedding day, the two took advantage of the panic and ran away.

After learning the news, Darden sent people to search for Eftida. After going through many obstacles, he finally found Eftida, but found that there was a man who loved her beside her - the grandson of Gejia. And Chaier is with his beloved woman... Everything seems to have a happy ending. As long as Darden nods and agrees, the two lovers can live happily as princes and princesses; but Unfortunately, news of Ge Jia's death suddenly came at this time. Seeing that everything is entangled again, how should we solve it?

“I want to express my passion and admiration for all natural things, now I return to life, color and light, abandoning the so-called shooting strategy. Gypsies know how to enjoy love and worship every moment of daily life , their passion and energy burst out throughout the film," Kusturica said when talking about the motivation for shooting the film. As a witness to the ups and downs of Yugoslavia, Gypsies have always been Kusturica's favorite subject. This time for the filming of "Black Cat, White Cat", he went to the countryside near Skopje (the capital of Macedonia) to meet with local jeeps. We get to know the Sai people day and night, participate in daily activities, play football with them, and deeply understand their unique temperament of joy and melancholy. Most of the roles in the film were played by non-professional actors who were making their first appearance in a film. With the director's encouragement, many of the improvisational performances were a stroke of genius.
