Is the imaging principle of infrared camera and thermal camera the same?

The imaging principle of infrared camera and thermal imager is different.

Infrared cameras are generally active infrared. The basic principle is that ordinary CCD camera can feel the spectral characteristics of infrared light (0.8 um ~ 1.05 um near infrared) (that is, it can feel both visible light and infrared light), and cooperate with infrared lamp as "lighting source" for night vision imaging. Thermal imager is completely passive infrared, and its principle is to detect the infrared radiation emitted by the target itself, and convert the temperature distribution image of the target object into a video image through photoelectric conversion, signal processing and other means. Infrared thermal imager can be divided into two categories: refrigeration type and uncooled type.
