What is the origin of Chaoshan dialect?

Chaoshan dialect originated in Qin and Han Dynasties, formed in Tang and Song Dynasties, and formed its own independent language system in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. Chaozhou dialect has its own dictionary, Chaozhou dialect dictionary and monographs in other local languages, such as Fifteen Tones of Chaozhou Dialect. A complete text reading system of Chaozhou dialect has been gradually integrated with modern Chinese.

Chaozhou dialect is the mother tongue of Chaoshan people and one of the remains of ancient Chinese in China. It can be traced back to the pre-Qin period before the Tang Dynasty, and it is also one of the oldest official languages in China. Chaozhou dialect retains many elements of ancient Chinese.

Chaoshan area

Chaoshan area refers to Chaoshan dialect area in Guangdong Province, with four Chaoshan cities (Shantou, Chaozhou, Jieyang and Shanwei) as the main body, also known as the four cities in eastern Guangdong, located in the southeast coastal area of Guangdong Province. Shantou was originally named Chaozhou House and Shantou City, and1983-19/kloc-0 was divided into four prefecture-level cities: Shantou, Chaozhou, Jieyang and Shanwei.

The name "Chaozhou" originated from Chaozhou, and was established in the original Yi 'an County in the 11th year of Emperor Wendi of Sui Dynasty (59 1). Taking the meaning of "within Chaozhou, the tide rises and falls", Chaoshan was named Chaozhou in Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing and the early years of the Republic of China, and it is still called Chaozhou in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and overseas.

The name "Chaoshan" originated from the construction of Chaoshan Railway, the first private railway in modern China in 1904. As we all know, since the Huanggang Uprising in Chaoshan led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen in1983-1,the former Shantou City was divided into Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang.
