Marine geography and its development

From the development history of geography, modern geography, which began in the19th century, has involved some marine fields in the past100th year, but generally speaking, land is still the main research object, and geography is mainly a "land" science. For half a century, with the progress of science and technology and the development of social economy, it has become possible to carry out comprehensive marine monitoring, investigation and research. Humans are gradually moving towards the ocean, the pace of developing marine resources is gradually accelerating, the awareness of protecting the marine environment is constantly improving, and the disputes among countries in the marine field are also increasing day by day, prompting geography to pay attention to the ocean and begin to March into the ocean. Therefore, the 20th century made necessary preparations for geography to enter the ocean field in an all-round way.

The fourth Council of China Geographical Society put forward the development of marine geography in 1984. 1In April, 1987, the Second Council of the Fifth Session of the Chinese Geographical Society decided to establish the "Marine Geography Professional Committee". 1988. In April, the professional committee was formally established, with members from China coastal 12 universities and 10 research units, and later extended to the Ministry of Marine Industry.

The International Geographical Union (IGU) established the "Marine Geography Research Group" on 1986, and China was one of the initiators. During the 26th International Geography Congress held in Sydney, Australia from 65438 to 0988, the IGU voted to establish the "Marine Geography Committee", with more than 40 member countries, which mainly coordinated, discussed and engaged in special research on global issues to promote the development of marine geography.

At first, the research of international marine geography mainly focused on "the influence of human activities on marine management and their interaction", with strong social science content. /kloc-since the 1990s, the content and research strength of natural science (marine resources and environment research) and technical science (remote sensing and GIS application) have been continuously strengthened, and the attention to regional oceans has been continuously strengthened, and the main research content centered on marine management has gradually developed.
