Point composition method of photographic composition

It is the most basic unit of all elements in the picture, from point to line and from line to surface. ? Point? Although it is basic, it is often ignored by people, and there is little information about it in our common photographic composition guidance. Point? Composition techniques mostly focus on lines and surfaces, and the description of points is generally limited to discussing the golden section. Let's take a closer look at the composition of these points.

In recent years? Minimalism? Both in the field of design and lifestyle are very concerned, which may be more or less related to a fruit mobile phone. The minimalist style in photography is also favored by photographers, but it is often ignored? Point? It plays a very important role in minimalist street photography.

Since talking about minimalist street photography, let's talk about minimalism first. When it comes to this, everyone will think of it? Less is more? In fact, this sentence was not said by Joe Wang at all. Minimalism is an art form that appeared in the 1960s from 65438 to 2009 after World War II. Initially embodied in music, sculpture, architecture and other art forms, and later gradually expanded to all fields of production and life. ? Less is more? Originally by German architect Mies? Where is it? De? Ludwig van der Rohe applied it to his architectural philosophy. Minimalism means extreme simplicity. Minimalism is not simple. What is its key word? Precision, elimination, tranquility? Through this design concept, unnecessary elements are eliminated, and their thoughts and feelings are accurately expressed, which increases the clarity of the theme. In this article, I will combine some domestic and foreign materials and some excellent photographic works to share my views on? Point? Some viewpoints in minimalist street photography composition are mainly developed from the following three aspects: main points, auxiliary points and environmental points.

First of all, the main points

? Key points? That is, the subject of the picture appears in the form of a point, and the audience can easily perceive his position in the picture. Sometimes a topic point is more than just a point. I divide it into single point, double point and multipoint. No matter how many points are the main body in the picture, we should pay attention to the contrast between the point and the environment, because the area of the point is usually very small, and it is easy to be submerged if it is not distinguished from the environment. There are many ways to form this contrast, such as color, tone and modeling. Next, I will explain the functions of single point, double point and multi-point in minimalist street photography according to the different number of points.

1. Single point focusing

There is a point in the picture, and the picture effect is quite clear, but the point is also elegant where it is placed in the frame, which is related to balance, aesthetics and so on. It is normal for a single point to appear in the center. Due to the popularity of square frames, the composition of the center point is not as dull as before, but gives people a sense of peace and harmony. Photographer @Cocu Liu used many excellent central point compositions, such as the following three minimalist works, which made people feel very quiet:

A point is located in the center of the picture, which is equidistant from each side of the picture frame. If there is an equidistant line connected with it, it will inevitably produce a feeling of leading the vision to the center. In the photo below, I use light as a visual guide and converge to the main point in the center:

The second single point placement method is probably the most conventional and mainstream, which is near the golden section. As I mentioned in the last picture frame art, draw a tic-tac-toe, two horizontal lines and two vertical lines. The intersection of these four lines is similar to the golden section. Putting the main point here as the center of interest gives people a natural aesthetic feeling. It can be said that it is a relatively safe composition technique. Here are two works by @Cocu Liu:

The four intersections in the above two pictures are the golden section points. It is worth mentioning that the straight line I drew is not marked strictly according to the equal distance, because it is impossible for us to set the position strictly according to the intersection point in the actual composition, as long as it is an approximate distance, so don't worry.

The last way about single-point composition is the most unconventional expression, which is placed on the edge of the picture, such as the following works by photographer @Y:

The main point of this work almost falls on the lower right corner of the picture, and the main line of sight points to the bird in the upper left corner. The two positions echo each other from a distance, giving people a feeling of yearning. Therefore, this placement method is generally based on the photographer's clear ideological intention and adopts a unique perspective experience. In minimalist works, large blank spaces and subjects close to the edge can sometimes create a stronger visual experience.
