Shooting skills of tourism photography

For travel enthusiasts who don't know much about photography, the longest theme is to take a photo here, but such a photo obviously can't detonate your circle of friends. How to take a unique travel photo, let's share the relevant experience and skills with you today.

Selection of shooting equipment and accessories

As a senior user of Canon, I have been using Canon's equipment. I usually travel with only one fuselage and three lenses. The fuselage has just been upgraded to 5D4, and the lens combination is 16-35mm F2.8, 70-200mm2.8, and the fixed focus is 50mf1.8. In this way, all kinds of situations and scenes in the journey are taken into account, such as environment, scenery, portraits and so on. To tell the truth, these equipments are quite heavy, so you should also choose a better suitcase and backpack, which will be introduced below. After all, I don't want to leave regrets every time I travel.

16-35mm F2.8: It is suitable for taking portraits of scenery, culture and environment on the road.

Why did I choose to take these three shots? As we all know, 16-35mm F2.8 is a wide-angle lens, which will have great visual impact when shooting. It's great to shoot scenes of scenery and architectural environment. 50mm F 1.8 is my favorite fixed-focus lens, and it is also a sharp weapon for taking portraits. The aperture is large enough for hand-held shooting at night. 70-200mm F2.8 is an excellent telephoto lens, especially suitable for compressing the viewing angle to highlight the subject and blur the background in crowded environment.

Canon 50mm F 1.8: Basic random lens, light and easy to use, handy for shooting still life and portrait on the road.

Canon 70-200mm2.8L: Suitable for long-distance shooting, without disturbing the subject, with blur effect.

As for the camera, I upgraded from 5D3 to 5D4 at the end of last year, and the number of pixels was increased to 30 million. And the all-pixel dual-core focusing system is also very easy to use. With the touch screen, various operations can be carried out more conveniently, and the autofocus performance under live view is greatly improved.

Capture different scenery in the city.

When we come to a strange city, we can always find some distinctive shops. We can shoot these scenes through the lens and make them good memories of our trip.

When shooting in urban areas, I prefer to use Canon 16-35mm F2.8, because it can zoom, not only shoot large scenes, but also shoot local scenes with 35mm. For street sweeping, 35mm is more suitable, because this focal spot is more in line with the visual habits of human eyes. There are also some shooting techniques. If you meet many people, you might as well wait for a while, and then take pictures after the crowd has dispersed, so as to take concise photos.

In addition, in the process of sweeping the street, we should be good at observing and looking for people or parts with characteristics to shoot. For this kind of scene, I recommend 50mm F 1.8, which can get a good blur effect and highlight the main body. When shooting, it is recommended to shoot as close as possible, such as about 3 meters, which can often take more impactful photos. In addition, when the subject is in motion, it is best to use the continuous shooting function to shoot, and then choose the best one.

A large aperture can highlight the main body. Because of the shallow depth of field, we can use the camera's continuous autofocus mode to track and focus the hand, so as to get a clear picture of the subject.

Different viewing angles of telephoto wide angle

In the course of traveling, we can't get too close to certain scenes. At this time, a lens with a longer focal length can often help us shoot distant scenes, such as Canon 70-200mm F2.8, which I personally prefer. With full aperture, the picture quality is excellent and the definition is excellent, which is very suitable for capturing distant pictures.

When shooting a scene with splash and scarf, there is a little trick, that is, try to choose the position of backlight or side light to shoot, and use light to penetrate the object, which can make the light and shadow effect of the photo more prominent. For this kind of motion scene, the success rate of shooting will be greatly improved by using 5D4 high-speed continuous shooting with 7 frames per second.

Using telephoto lens can shoot distant local images, so it is easier to obtain concise composition, especially in scenes with regular shapes, which will appear very clean and pure. For example, the shape of the background is very interesting, but without this lady in distinctive clothes, it will be monotonous. We might as well stop at the shooting location for a while and wait for a subject to enter the picture before shooting.

In contrast, wide-angle lens is more suitable for shooting large scenes, but due to its wide viewing angle, special attention should be paid to the choice of scenes. Reasonable use of the combination of foreground, middle scene and distant view can make the picture more layered, and the choice of shooting time is also very important. For example, we can shoot at sunrise or sunset, and the light and shadow of the picture will be more beautiful.

In a relatively cramped room, using a wide-angle lens can better interpret the relationship between the environment and the characters. For snapshots, it is recommended to use the silent shutter mode of 5D4 to shoot. At the same time, the focus of Canon 16-35mm F2.8 lens is very quiet, which is very suitable for capturing pictures in strange places without disturbing each other.

With a good mood, take a small fresh photo of the trip.

Traveling, in addition to photographing local conditions and customs, portraits are also necessary. For girls, it is not difficult to take a small and fresh portrait. When choosing a scene, pay attention to find some simple scenes, and the colors in the picture should not be too messy. In addition, it will look good if the contrast and saturation are properly reduced during later retouching.

In the process of shooting, we should try to avoid the stiff feeling of "posing". We can film the natural action process in the way of continuous shooting. For example, when we suddenly turn around, we can speed up the whole continuous shooting process and choose the best angle, which will be more natural.

The above photo was taken with a large aperture of Canon 70-200mm F2.8, and the background can be blurred. At the same time, because the background is the sea, the blurred image is clear at a glance, and the clutter of the waves is also avoided.

If we need to explain the scene, or want to have a unique visual effect, we can also use the 16-35mm F2.8 lens to shoot. What we need to pay attention to is that when composing a picture, the subject should not be in the center of the picture. We can make the picture look cleaner and purer by leaving a lot of white space in the sky.

When shooting portraits, we can use various props to achieve different effects, such as sunglasses, scarves or straw hats. For example, the photo above, lying on the beach sunbathing and holding a straw hat, increases the gas field and vitality of the picture.

I'm glad you came, the law of collocation between man and environment.

When traveling, we all want to take a photo of a landmark scenic spot or building, but how to take a unique commemorative photo needs to pay attention to the collocation relationship between people and scenes.

We can use a wide-angle lens to explain the environment. At the same time, the posture and movements of the role subject match the environment. For example, in the photo above, the background is a distant mountain, so that people can be arranged to walk in the distance, which makes people feel that they are going to climb the mountain and cause some reverie. If people smile at the camera, there is no sense of story.

The use of reflection can make the picture more balanced up and down. For example, lakes and streets after rain can be used as reflective surfaces, and very unique sightseeing photos can also be taken here. It should be noted that when shooting, try to avoid ripples on the water surface, and choose the water surface as calm as possible when shooting.

At sunrise or sunset, light and shadow and the color of the sky are often the most beautiful. At this time, we can get the unique photos of our visit here by taking silhouettes. In fact, this kind of shooting is not difficult. As long as the camera's average metering mode is used, the camera will take the brightness of the background as the metering standard and take a satisfactory silhouette photo with the adjustment of exposure compensation.

Besides, when we shoot, we don't have to shoot people's faces. For example, this photo of a girl standing on the dock has a clear background. If you can't see the upper body, it will make us associate and make the picture more story-telling. Is she looking at the scenery? Still waiting for someone?

Break down barriers and shoot portraits of local people.

If you want to experience the local customs during your trip, it is a good choice to chat with the locals. If you can take a portrait of them everywhere, it will be a set of portrait maps of the world.

We can invite local people wearing local costumes to shoot, which will be more exotic. The choice of composition is also very diverse. If you want to reflect the sense of form, you can let the characters be in the center of the picture and the background be used to explain the environment, so that the photos taken will have a unique sense of solemnity.

It should be noted that taking pictures of strangers must obtain the consent of the other party; If you can speak the local language, communicate directly and introduce yourself sincerely, invite him to shoot; If you don't understand the language, smile, show your photo to the other person and invite them to agree with your gesture. If the other party agrees to shoot, it is best to send a copy of the photo to the other party as a thank you and a souvenir. Under normal circumstances, they will agree. If they feel that the other person is unwilling, thank you for leaving.

Well, I have shared so many shooting skills related to travel photography, hoping to help you take different photos in your future travels. Let's bid farewell to this tour and take our own beautiful photos with the lens.
