Who can read Ashes of Time? I haven't understood it after reading it several times.

Wong Kar-wai filmed Ashes of Time on 1994. Personally, I think this film is the pinnacle of Wong Kar-wai's works. Although this film won only some technical awards at the 4th Hong Kong Golden Awards and the 5th Venice Film Festival, Kim immediately gained some gains and was named as one of the top ten Chinese films of that year. Later "Chongqing Forest", "In Spring" and "In the Mood for Love" brought him the reputation of a master. But personally, I prefer this movie. If, as Du Qifeng said, Wong Kar-wai actually made only one film, it should be Ashes of Time. This film contains Wong Kar-wai's most classic sad lines, consistent decadent beauty and Wong Kar-wai's most comprehensive insight into modern people's hearts. Later films more or less inherited a theme, but this one is the most profound.

The story takes place in the desert, and the image of the desert represents the city. Modern civilization makes the city look barren and lifeless. The story discusses the spiritual dilemma of people of all colors in modern cities and soothes the emotional scars of urbanites. Everyone in the film represents a different image.

Hong Qi-He comes from the countryside without shoes, "will not leave the camel behind" and "do what he thinks is right", which shows that he is a simple and frank person and represents a pure self. When Hong Qi found that he had lost himself, it represented the castration of traditional civilization by modern civilization. Hong Qi, on the other hand, found himself lost and killed for an egg, which represented the resistance of traditional civilization to modern civilization. But the final result is finger amputation, which means that Hong Qi's victory is just a good wish, or Wong Kar-wai's main orientation. Wong Kar-wai used this to guide us to think about the real dilemma. Later, he took his wife to wander the rivers and lakes, which represented his courage to explore and finally succeeded, indicating that Wong Kar-wai affirmed him and the image he represented. His wife fell in love with her best friend, went blind at the age of 30 and finally died. "I heard that the knife is fast and the blood is like the wind. I didn't expect it to be my own blood for the first time." It's really sad. He kissed the strange woman before the battle, which was actually his last farewell to his wife. "After I left, the woman's tears slowly dried up on my face. I wonder if that woman will cry for me. " Finally, he asked Ouyang Feng to tell Dong Xie that his wife was waiting for him.
