Who is the French officer who set fire to Yuanmingyuan?

Baron Jean-batiste Louis Gro (1793- 1870) is a French ambassador, who has served as French ambassadors in Bogota (1838–1842) and Athens (1852). He was also one of the early silver-plate photographers, and took many famous silver-plate photos, the most important of which was about the Acropolis.

During the Second Opium War, Gro commanded the French army in China. It has successively signed the Sino-French Tianjin Treaty and the Sino-French Beijing Treaty with the government of China.
