Composition, characteristics and movement mode of temporomandibular joint

Composition of temporomandibular joint:

The articular fossa and tubercles of the temporal bone (articular surface of the temporal bone), the mandibular condyle and the articular disc between them are surrounded by the articular capsule and the ligaments inside and outside the articular capsule.

Morphological characteristics:

Temporomandibular joint, which can be referred to as mandibular joint for short, is the only left and right bilateral joint in maxillofacial region, with certain stability and multidirectional mobility. Under the action of muscles, various important activities related to chewing, swallowing, language and expression are produced.

Exercise mode:

1. Opening: mouth opening muscle, lateral pterygoid muscle, digastric muscle, hyoid muscle, temporal muscle, mandibular hyoid muscle and genioglossus muscle.

2, closed mouth: closed mouth muscles: temporal muscle, masseter muscle, medial pterygoid muscle.

Extended data:

Image structure and lateral position of temporomandibular joint;

(1) The temporomandibular joint is located in front of the external auditory canal, overlapping with the occipital base and the petrous cone, so some people can easily see it, while others have unclear development. Generally, the circular contour of mandibular capitulum can be traced upward along the posterior edge of mandibular branch.

(2) In addition, from the tip of the petrous cone forward, a strip-shaped zygomatic arch shadow can be seen, and the part of its lower edge corresponding to the mandibular capitulum is obviously depressed to form a mandibular fossa, and the anterior fossa protrudes downward as a joint nodule.

(3) Sometimes the mandibular fossa is a sectional shadow, which is an axial shadow of the top of the mandibular fossa. The upper and lower edges of the sectional shadow are dense cortex and the middle layer is spongy. Temporomandibular joint is formed between mandibular capitulum and mandibular fossa, and there is a transparent joint space with a thickness of about 2 mm
