What the original poster said is probably right. I used Pringles cover before using S602. I did cover the whole lens before using it. The cover is not 18 shades of gray, but transparent. The light is close to eighteen shades of gray.

When you cover the lens with a cover and point it at the scene you want to shoot, the light reflected from the scene is filtered by the Pringles cover, leaving only about 18 shades of gray light entering the lens. Then the manual white level can be set correctly. Come on!
