China's first cartoon.

1926, Wan Brothers overcame many difficulties such as funds, venues and materials, and finally successfully developed China's first animated film "Make a scene"; It is also the beginning of China's fine arts films.

The film tells the story of a painter who suddenly jumped off the drawing board while painting in the studio and made a scene in the studio. Although the plot of the film is simple, the Wan brothers who are engaged in animation creation for the first time have encountered many problems. When shooting, either the place that should move does not move, or the place that should not move moves; After many experiments and repeated explorations, they succeeded in shooting. This film is also the first cartoon in China in which Wan Guchan plays the role of a painter and animates a small paper man. The film is produced by Great Wall Film Company, with a length of 12 minutes. Two years later, Wan Guchan independently produced the animated film A Letter Sent Back. After the two films were released, they aroused great interest from the audience.

Wan Brothers is a pioneer in China's fine arts and animation film industry. They came to Shanghai from Nanjing in the early 20th century, and successively entered the Commercial Press to engage in fine arts. Their original names were Wan Jiazong, Wan, Wan Jiajie and Wan respectively, and the names in the comics were their own pen names. In order to develop cartoons, they worked around the clock for a long time in a 7-square-meter pavilion on Tiantong 'an Road in Zhabei, Shanghai. It took several years and hundreds of experiments to complete the development of China's first cartoon.

1935, Wan Brothers filmed China's first animated film Camel Dance. 194 1 year, they released China's first ministerial animated film Princess Iron Fan, which was also the longest animated film in Asia at that time and ranked fourth in the world. After liberation, Wan Laiming, Wan Guchan and Wan of the four brothers, except Lao Sihuan, left the animation creation post, and all became the main founders of Shanghai Animation Film Studio. From 1960, they began to re-create the large-scale animated film "Make a scene in Heaven", which they tried before liberation. After that, it took another four years to draw nearly 70,000 paintings in 1963, and finally completed this masterpiece of 120 minutes. This film is not only very popular in China, but also won the first prize in the international film festival. It has also been shown in dozens of countries around the world, which indicates that China's fine arts films have entered the advanced ranks in the world. In addition, Wan Guchan filmed China's first newspaper clipping "Pig Eight Rings Eat Watermelon" on 1957.

In addition to making special cartoons, the Wan brothers also make animation stunts for many feature films. The scene of sword fighting and casting in the famous supernatural martial arts movie "Burning Red Lotus Temple" was made by Wan Brothers with animation. Later, Ge Xiang Beauty produced by Star Company, Urban Scenery produced by Dentsu Company and Parents and Children produced by Cultural Film Company all inserted their animation shots, which added a lot of color to the films.
