The Golden Rooster Award includes the best feature film, the best small and medium budget feature film, the best children's film, the special prize of the jury, the best documentary film/science and education film, the best art film, the best opera film, the best foreign language film, and the best screenwriter, director, director's debut, best actor, best heroine, best supporting actor, best photography, best recording, best art, best music and best editing.

According to the newly revised articles of association, the jury is divided into feature film selection committee, science and education film/documentary film selection committee, art film selection committee and opera film selection committee. The awards of the Selection Committee are divided into two stages: initial evaluation and final evaluation.
