The animated version of Friends of Natsume tells the story of Natsume Reiko, a woman alienated by human beings because she can see monsters. In order to pass the lonely days, she challenged the monster and wrote the name of the monster she defeated on a paper contract as evidence that the monster became her subordinate. Reiko Kobayakawa's grandson Xia Muxiao got the "friend accounts" made by those contracts, and also inherited Reiko Kobayakawa's ability to see objects that would not appear in front of people. And Ling He's son has become a member alienated by the people around him. However, as the only person who continues Reiko Kobayakawa's bloodline, he made an important decision: to return the surname taken away by Reiko Kobayakawa. Around the purpose of such a summer, all kinds of monsters began to gather ... A young Natsume who could see monsters told a strange, sad, nostalgic and touching mysterious story about Mr. Miao, a monster with the appearance of a lucky cat.

Then around this "contact book", he and Mr. Cat, the bodyguard, lived a busy life in order to return the names of monsters. The ending is not what we expected. After the protagonist gasped for his life, he walked in a posture and was no longer embarrassed. He went to the mysterious depths, where he accepted his monster. Although the way to get along with each other is to fight with each other, Natsume's stretched chest has lost the obscurity of the world.
