Film Evaluation of Rare People

Rare Man is another masterpiece of Japanese young director Takashi Shimizu after Curse. I can only express all my feelings after this best horror film that just won the "Brussels" Crow Award.

"Horror film" has been alienated by many audiences in the film industry because of its heretical image, but at the same time, it attracts groups of people who are obsessed with it with its mysterious conception, compact plot and unparalleled sensory stimulation, which makes them want to stop.

For many movie lovers with this hobby, the essence of excellent horror works lies not in "horror", but in the artistry of the whole sense, such as the whole plot design, picture details, sound effects and music. The fun of enjoying horror movies lies in the constant reasoning and hypothesis from the director's thinking angle in the process of appreciation, so as to find out the final truth.

The so-called "horror" of horror movies is just a kind of resistance to unpredictable phenomena that can't happen in reality during the watching process. Once you get over this psychology, you can look at a picture and think about how the director's next shot will be arranged. When your inference is confirmed, it is really a wonderful enjoyment. In the process of watching, constant empathy is definitely a good way to exercise logical thinking.

Rare Man is indeed a classic that really interacts with the audience. From beginning to end, the story keeps close to the audience's line of sight, throwing out a series of obscure clues, attracting the audience to ask questions, assume, reason, judge, hypothesize, reason and judge constantly, throwing out the last clue until the last shot appears, so that the whole story can be presented to the audience completely. But the presentation of the whole story is a process of self-reasoning by the audience, and giving the audience the initiative is the true meaning of this film.

In order to help filmmakers who are new to "horror movies" better appreciate this classic, the suspense plot of the story is analyzed as follows.

First of all, we must understand some qualitative conditions presented by the whole film and the director:,

Diro F is an alien who lives underground and lives on blood. F's way of life is to lure people on the ground to find her underground. Driven by curiosity, human beings brought her to the ground, and then willingly gave his life to F under the constant temptation of Dillo, so F could suck his blood, take him underground and turn him into Dillo.

The whole story is unfolded according to this formula. After Ali's death, he became Diluo and tricked Ceng Gang into going underground to find F. Driven by curiosity, Ceng Gang brought F to the ground. Later, in an "accidental" incident, he found that F lived on blood (some accidental factors in the story are analyzed below), so he began to maintain F's life with his own blood. At the same time, Ali appeared again and began to seduce Masoka, suggesting that he could not feed F and wanted to bring F back underground.

At this time, a very controversial figure appeared (the reasons for the controversy will be analyzed in detail later), that is, an unknown woman wearing a windbreaker. She claimed to be Ceng Gang's wife and kept pestering Ceng Gang. Ceng Gang worried about F, plus this crazy woman's entanglement, she lost her mind for a moment and killed her. Then she poured the woman's blood into the bottle and stored it for F. This greatly increased Masoka's self-confidence and felt that he had found a way to support F, which was also recognized by Ali. When F's blood ran out, he killed a girl in the same way for the second time and let F live.

After killing two women in succession, Masoka saw their ghosts in his vision, which made him feel a little uneasy. When the second woman's blood ran out, Ceng Gang decided to give up F and go to an island alone. At this time, a key figure Ali appeared behind Ceng Gang. He constantly encouraged Ceng Gang to accept the illusion that Ceng Gang killed his wife and F he brought back was his daughter who had been a pet since childhood.

Ceng Gang finally accepted this imaginary reality with her encouragement. At this time, Rorty appeared in Ceng Gang's sight again, lured him to answer the phone, and then went home to see F. So in order to save F, he went home and gave his life to his "daughter" F. Finally, F took him underground. At this time, he also became a Deruo and stopped talking with his mouth. He and F communicate in Deruo when they go underground. Ceng Gang looked at what F finally understood, so he showed the same frightened expression as Ali.

At this moment, a frightened face appeared in Ceng Gang's mobile phone, and the next story will begin with Ceng Gang's mobile phone. Masuka will be the next Ali, so who will be the next Masuka?

The story ends here.

In the development of the whole story, the unknown woman wearing a windbreaker mentioned above is a controversial figure for the majority of film friends. Someone suggested that "she is Ceng Gang's wife and F is Ceng Gang's daughter." But this assumption is obviously unreasonable in the end, so this assumption is wrong. In the whole film, the role analysis of this woman is an important clue to the reasoning of the whole story.

First of all, when Ceng Gang was troubled by F's drinking blood, the nagging of the windbreaker girl aroused his anxiety and disgust. To pave the way for the first murder.

Imagine, after all, Ceng Gang is a person living in a normal society. He has a moral concept (which was later proved by walking for ghosts), and this moral concept and fear are the key obstacles for him to start killing people. Imagine, he won't find someone to break this moral boundary for no reason, and the windbreaker woman who appeared at this time is arousing his dissatisfaction and disgust, which is the key figure for him to start killing. If there is no windbreaker girl, there is no chance to kill Masoka.

Secondly, if there is no woman wearing a trench coat, there will be no imagination of Ceng Gang killing his wife and abusing his daughter after being encouraged by Ali, and Ceng Gang will not leave and willingly go back and give his life to F, so there will be no final truth.

Therefore, the appearance of the windbreaker woman is an important factor leading to the deep interpretation of the story. Her appearance is necessary and there is nothing to doubt. As for her identity, she can only be an "accidental" insane woman.

In addition, some film friends questioned some "accidents" in the film. How did the windbreaker girl appear as mentioned above? Or how did the sudden violence against Masoka in the film cause Masoka's fingers to bleed?

There is an old saying in China that "coincidence doesn't make a book", and the development of the story needs contingency, so the appearance of the above characters can be an accident set in the whole story. We can also freely imagine that she was deliberately induced by Ali or Diluo people to let Ceng Gang enter the game, just as the Diluo people induced Ceng Gang to return home last time, and their appearance was planned by Diluo people in advance.

In short, in order to create some necessary opportunities and design the necessary characters in time, it is the director's ingenuity. Let's enjoy it with appreciation.

Some movie friends questioned the two ghosts in the film, and we made the following analysis:

First of all, the appearance of juvenile ghosts has two functions.

1. can enhance the suspense of the story. In addition to ingenious conception, some suspense scenes are also indispensable in horror movies. The appearance of the girl ghost in the film inevitably adds some horror to the film.

2. The appearance of female ghost is the factor that makes Masoka uneasy and leaves F for the seaside, so the appearance of female ghost is necessary.

Secondly, the ghost of a windbreaker woman appeared at the end of the film, which is also the finishing touch. The situation at that time clearly showed Masoka's fear, anxiety and a kind of extreme regret for killing his wife and abusing his daughter. In order to finally call life "daughter" F, some colors are rendered.

In addition, like the girl ghost, it also adds suspense and horror to the whole story.

As for how they appeared, it is the same as the "accidental" incident mentioned above. Just the effect that should appear.

There is also a problem worthy of the attention of film friends, that is, the three phone calls of Ceng Gang in the whole story. These three phone calls are the introduction for him to enter Rorty's nationality step by step.

On the first phone call, Ceng Gang was told that it was a mistake to bring F out, which inspired Ceng Gang to prove himself by saving F, and paved the way for him to kill F after discovering that F had eaten blood.

The second phone call, after Ceng Gang was killed, showed off to Rorty people and proved that he could raise F. This phone call was recognized by Rorty people, which made him lose his rationality and paved the way for killing the second person.

The third call is for the theme. It was this third phone call that lured Ceng Gang home to save F, and he followed F back to the underground. At the same time, Ceng Gang's last look on the mobile phone screen is also looking for the next target for Deruo people.

It can be seen that the three phone calls throughout the film are exactly the three steps to lure Ceng Gang into Rorty.

Please note that this movie is not the Japanese ghost movie you imagined, but it is actually more like a movie about interpersonal alienation in Cai Mingliang or Jin Jide (perhaps more like michael haneke? ), coupled with strange and cold-blooded Japanese underground movies, will not scare people. In addition, there is another type of otaku (Japanese subculture) in this movie: gloomy, indifferent and uncomfortable protagonist. Into this work.

I always thought Takashi Shimizu was a clever man. His previous work "Curse Series" adopted split narrative, deliberately disrupting narrative lines. Many people are surprised by this technique, but personally, I always feel that this technique is actually just a variation of many Japanese horror movies and videos (similar to xx tales of mystery, which brings together many small horror stories). Of course, Takashi Shimizu's technology is smarter than horror movies and videos, and he added characters in the second episode of Curse. This time, the film "Rare People" is an alternative attempt, trying to add some stylized topics to the horror film genre.

The story is about a photographer who is addicted to photography. He only looked at the world through the viewing window (I remembered the video of Benny * in michael haneke), which degraded his overall perception and turned him into a cold and withdrawn person. In one incident, he began to pursue "seeing fear". Turns out there's a girl who looks like a vampire. This story clearly expresses that human beings are becoming more and more alienated because of the development of science and technology and the changes of the times, and need external stimulation to attract attention. What's more, they made a big article about otaku who are addicted to their own world. The hero in the play has little contact with others except work and lives in his own world. This story can be said to be his closed history, deliberately shooting the mysterious beauty of vampire F. I think it's more like the hero's fantasy or infatuation with love (whether it's love or affection), which is a bit abnormal, but it also proves his closed character. And the audience peeped at the whole thing with cameras (there were many shots in the play).

However, movies with this special perspective are a bit messy, because Takashi Shimizu is playing his tricks. He throws out a lot of metaphysical knowledge, such as the theory of burrows, and then plays with the formula of a typical horror film, plus the idea that a hero himself may be crazy, taking the opportunity to criticize the young people now. In the end, reality and fiction intersect, and the protagonist falls into the abyss of self-enclosure. Or is this a complete dream? The author has no intention to explain that the audience is confused by a bunch of information thrown by his cleverness and can only know a little about the author's meaning.

This is not a comfortable viewing experience (maybe it's really like michael haneke? ), people who want to watch ordinary horror movies have more horrible choices in the movie market, but if you are interested in stylized and alternative underground movies or want to see what the award-winning horror movies look like, then Rare People may be a choice to try.
