Sherman was born in Glenridge, New Jersey, USA. Shortly after his birth, he moved to Huntington, Long Island, New York with his family and grew up there. While studying painting at Buffalo College of the State University of New York, Sherman became interested in visual arts. Although Sherman majored in painting when she entered school, she co-founded an artist's gallery called "Hallwalls" with her classmates in the middle of school.
