In my opinion, a good film can meet the needs of the audience on three levels at the same time:

Entertainment, artistic enjoyment and ideological enlightenment.

Recently I re-watched a masterpiece that fully meets this standard -

The Korean film: "Out".

This is an old film that was released in China in 2005. I recently reviewed the old disc and put it in the disc player.

When I started watching it from the beginning, I still couldn’t stop, and until the end of the film, I was filled with tears.

Therefore, I am writing this article to share with you all the wonderful films.

First let’s talk about the entertainment of this film.

It tells a story of "serial derailment".

Extramarital affairs, commonly known as cheating.

As we all know, the marriage system invented by humans is not a natural cling film for love, and its various flaws are often criticized by people.

From the perspective of human nature, it is human nature to seek new excitement, and it is natural for people to change their minds when they see different things. It is not uncommon for people to fall in love with others.

In order to ensure the exclusiveness of love, human beings have set various moral laws for themselves, but they are often vulnerable to powerful instincts.

In this film, In-soo's wife and Seo-young's husband break through the moral constraints and stage an extramarital affair.

Inxiu is an introverted and quiet young man. Although his career as a stage lighting engineer is often associated with excitement, when the stage ends, he feels empty inside.

His wife Xiuzhen was very happy and was an active member of the photography club in college.

They were supposed to complement each other, but Xiuzhen had an affair and developed an extramarital affair with Yin Jinghao, who was in the same photography club in college.

Yin Jinghao's wife Shuzhen has a gentle and virtuous personality. After graduating from college, she followed her father's orders to go on a blind date, married Yin Jinghao, and became a housewife.

Yin Jinghao may have felt that "working women are more attractive" as Shuzhen guessed, and later fell in love with another woman.

These plots are not surprising at first.

Strangely, the two people who cheated on each other got into a car accident while driving out of town on a date, and both became a vegetative state.

When the news came, Renxiu and Shuying rushed to the hospital near the car accident.

Renxiu and Shuying learned the truth through the text messages on their spouses' mobile phones and the women's self-portraits of secret love videos.

First they heard about their partner's car accident, and then they learned about their spouse's betrayal. The sudden double blow made In-soo and Seo-young unbearable.

The third blow came one after another -

This car accident also resulted in the death of a young man. Since the driver could not be identified, the family members of the two perpetrators had to go together. Go to express condolences to the family of the deceased.

As a result, the other party was insulted and even punched.

On the way Renxiu drove back to the hospital with Shuying, Shuying was sad, angry, resentful, aggrieved... all kinds of emotions broke out at the same time, so she asked to stop and cried bitterly on the roadside.

Ren Xiu felt the same way and stayed by his side silently.

In-soo and Seo-young, who experienced triple blows at the same time, developed feelings of sympathy and admiration for each other through frequent contact, and eventually developed another extramarital affair!

A pair of extramarital lovers became vegetative and both were lying in the hospital.

Another pair of extramarital lovers are having fun outside at this time.

Such a story, as In-soo said to Seo-young, their love is like a "revenge".

In the words of Shuying's drunken joke, it is:

The ending of the film is that Shuying's husband died and Inxiu's wife woke up.

When Renxiu told her about the death of his wife's extramarital lover, the other party burst into tears.

Does such a plot satisfy your curiosity?

Let’s talk about the artistic features of this film.

In my opinion, the director of this film is well versed in the subtlety and restraint of traditional Chinese aesthetics.

The implicitness of this film can be roughly divided into two categories.

The first type is the implicitness of the character’s inner language.

For example, when Shuzhen stood in front of the sleeping bed of In-soo's wife, secretly looking at this "working woman" who had taken away her husband's favor, her inner activities seemed to be clearly visible, and we seemed to be able to listen Until she asked herself in her heart -

"What is more attractive about this woman than me?"

The only inner descriptions of Shuying here are movements and expressions.

Even better was In Soo’s subsequent reaction.

When Renxiu saw Shuying standing in front of his wife's bed, he asked Shuying in confusion:

Shuying remained silent and left in embarrassment.

Renxiu thought for a moment, chased after her, and sat down in front of the sleeping Shuying's husband's bed, surprising Shuying next to her.

At this time Renxiu did not speak.

Just silence.

Just when you were guessing what Renxiu might say, he suddenly stood up and left silently.

Only then did you realize that he actually couldn’t say anything.

Saying nothing is his character.

——Could he say:

The other type is the implicitness of the lens.

Why do we always feel that TV series are popular while movies are relatively elegant?

An important reason lies in the careful use of lenses.

TV dramas have more time, and the cameras often take the trouble to explain the details.

Movies usually finish everything within 90 minutes, with many places being touched upon, which is exactly in line with the Chinese aesthetic standard of "elegance" - being subtle and leaving enough room for imagination.

For example, when In-soo’s wife wakes up, there is a scene where In-soo feeds his wife.

The camera turned and Shuying passed by the window and saw this scene.

The film is very sparing and only gives one shot of Shuying's facial expression, and then switches to a scene of feeding food in the window.

What is Shuying thinking at this time?

The audience can completely imagine and add to it.

This kind of controlled treatment abounds in the film.

In addition, with a large number of fixed camera shots and slowly moving long shots, the overall artistic style is elegant, calm, subtle and restrained.

Of course, this film is not blindly restrained, otherwise it will be monotonous and lack strength.

The characteristic of a controlled shot is that it goes back and forth - the character's expression is only shown once, the camera switches quickly and never returns.

At the end of the film, after enough foreshadowing, the characters' emotions reach a climax, as if a symphony has played to a glorious and gorgeous passage, or a painting has reached a rich and colorful part, and the use of lenses has also changed accordingly, with restraint. It turned into catharsis——

When Seo-young’s husband passed away and she was about to return to Seoul, she couldn’t bear to leave at the station, so she returned to the hotel again and stared at her for a long time in the cafe where she dated In-soo near the hotel. The figure of Renxiu in front of the hotel window opposite could not help but burst into tears.

At this time, the camera first shows Shuying's facial expression, then switches to In-soo's figure, and then cuts back to Shuying's crying expression, and stays there for a long time.

The looping shots seem to express infinite sympathy on behalf of the audience.

Shuying's sadness, self-pity, helplessness, reluctance, and all kinds of complicated and tangled emotions are all revealed in this set of shots, giving the audience a strong sense of empathy.

This film also has many artistic features, such as the use of reflections from glass and mirrors to create meaningful images.

In many places in the film, the figures of In-soo and Seo-young are framed through the reflection of glass, and they are like exquisite character paintings, creating a blurred and beautiful artistic conception.

The dreamlike movie-watching experience reminded me of Kawabata Yasunari's "Snow Country" and Zhang Ailing's "The Story of the Golden Lock". The artistic techniques of the new sensory novels were used without leaving any trace. Transplantation application.

Finally, let’s talk about the ideological enlightenment this film brings to us.

The protagonists of the film, In-soo and Seo-young, follow the rules and are honest in their lives. They seem to have done nothing wrong, but fate forces them to do something extraordinary. Where should they go?

The film uses poetic symbolism to hint at their choice -

In-soo likes winter.

Shuying likes spring.

Both of them like snow.

Who says it can’t snow in spring?

Who says people who love each other can't be together?

Where will they go?

The open ending makes us unable to help but speculate on their possible fates.

If it were ourselves, how would we choose?

Secondly, why do extramarital affairs happen? What kind of marriage is not easy to get bored and can last forever?

In-soo's wife was probably tired of her husband's overly quiet personality. Unwilling to be lonely, she sought satisfaction outside of marriage.

Shuying’s husband may really prefer “working women.”

These are actually not the point.

I think the key point the film reminds us is that people entering into marriage need to have the awareness to manage their marriage.

How to run a marriage?

——Both parties in a marriage need to constantly renew and improve themselves.

If the me of today is different from the me of yesterday, and the me of tomorrow will be different from the me of today, both parties in the marriage will be pleasantly surprised by the continuous updating of their partner's image at any time, and they will be deeply attracted by the continuous enhancement of the charm of the other party at any time. Being attracted, this endless stream of fresh stimulation from within marriage, satisfies human nature's instinct to like the new and dislike the old. This is the secret to couples growing old together.

If Renxiu continues to improve himself, break through the limitations of the lighting engineer profession, and make himself more meaningful.

What if Shuying leaves the family, bravely challenges herself, and becomes a more comprehensive and outstanding woman.

So, how can their partners easily take the step of "going out"?

What kind of marriage will not get boring? What kind of love lasts forever?

If you find the right person and work hard every moment on your marriage, you will never get tired of it!

The love between each other will always remain charming, always fresh and exciting, and will last forever!
