Who can elaborate on the Munich air crash 1958?
The Munich air crash happened on February 6th, 1958. When British European Airlines Flight 609 attempted to take off for the third time on the snowy runway of Munich Airport in West Germany, it was carrying players, fans and accompanying journalists from Manchester United, the English football league team. Twenty-three of the 44 passengers and crew on board were killed, including eight Manchester United players and three staff members.
In order to adapt to this tight schedule, flying became the only feasible way for Manchester United to participate in European competitions at that time.
Manchester United arrived in Belgrade, the then Yugoslav capital, in the second leg of the semi-final and visited Red Star Football Club in Belgrade. Manchester United beat their opponents 3-3 and eliminated them 5-4 twice. Later, the club will arrange for Manchester United players to return to Britain by the airspeed "ambassador" plane of Lord G-ALZU Burleigh, with a stopover in Munich to refuel.
Due to the loss of Manchester United player John Berry's passport, the flight was delayed for an hour before taking off from Belgrade.
On February 6th 1958, flight 609th failed to take off twice after refueling at Munich airport, captain.

James Thain tried to take off for the third time at 3: 04 pm. As a result, the plane didn't climb because of insufficient speed. Ran off the runway and crashed into the airport fence. After losing control and crossing a road, the left wing crashed into a nearby house and the fuselage broke in two. The left fuselage hit a tree, and the right fuselage hit a truck parked in the barracks, full of tires and fuel, and then exploded. Seven Manchester United players, Manchester United club secretary, coach and a coach were killed on the spot. At that time, duncan edwards, who was only 2 1 year-old and was regarded as a rising star in England, was seriously injured and died after being hospitalized for many days.
German airport authorities initially pointed out that the main cause of the air crash was that the pilot did not deice the wings before taking off and told the captain.
James Tyne filed a lawsuit. But it was later confirmed that the snow at the end of the runway was the main cause of the accident. The heavy snow slowed the plane that was about to take off from the original 2 17km/h to 194km/h, which failed to reach the speed required for takeoff. There was no room for the plane to stop taking off on the runway, which eventually led to the plane rushing off the runway and crashing.

The air crash brought a heavy blow to Manchester United at that time: eight players, a coach and a coach were killed, and another
Two foreign players were also forced to retire due to injuries. Head coach Matthew Busby also had to be hospitalized for more than two months because of serious injuries. At that time, many people thought that Manchester United would go bankrupt, but under the leadership of temporary head coach jimmy murphy, Manchester United, with the reserve team and young players as the backbone, managed to finish the season. After the air crash, the first game even defeated Sheffield Wednesday Football Club 3-0, and the place in the game magazine that originally contained Manchester United's player list was blank, because the team could not provide the names of eleven players who would play in armor at that time.
Manchester United did not perform well in this league without Busby Baby and head coach Matthew Busby, but advanced to the FA Cup final, but lost 2-0 to Bolton. The following season, Matthew Busby came back to lead the team, began to rebuild the team, and promoted many excellent players such as george best and denis law. These new players, together with the original players such as Bobby Charlton and Bill Folques who survived the air crash, formed a new generation lineup, and defeated the Portuguese team Benfica in the final of the European Cup (1968) ten years after the air crash, and won the team's first European Cup.
Today, there are still some fans who ridicule Manchester United fans by referring to the plane crash or imitating the plane collision with gestures, which are often condemned by all parties.
1On February 6th, 998, the 40th anniversary of Munich air crash was held in Manchester Cathedral.
Players who used to play for Manchester United also attended. Late on Saturday, the game against Bolton was slightly delayed. At 3: 04 pm (that is, the time of the plane crash that year), there was a silence of 1 minute before the game started.
On September 22nd, 2004, Sir Bobby Charlton went to Germany to preside over the unveiling ceremony of the monument. Prior to this, only a flowerpot and a small commemorative plaque were placed at the scene.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Munich air crash, Manchester United was approved by the Premier League Games to wear the classic jersey of 1950 against Manchester City on February/0, 2008. There are no Premier League logos, sponsors' advertisements and players' names on the jerseys, and the numbers on the back are arranged from 1 to1traditionally. Manchester United set up a permanent free Munich air crash and Busby Baby Show in the south stand passage of Old Trafford Stadium. On February 6, 2008 at 3: 04 pm, there was also a memorial service at Old Trafford Stadium. On the same day, a friendly match between England and Switzerland was held at Wembley Stadium. Before the game, there was a silent ceremony to mourn the victims.
