Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin (1832-1898) was one of the most representative landscape painters of the Russian traveling exhibition school in the 19th century. Muskoi (Ivan Nikolayevich Kramskoi) called it "a milestone in the development of Russian landscape painting".

Shishkin was born in a merchant family in Vyatka Province.
