Art History-043 Wu Guoying: A personal account of the enthronement ceremony of the great monk Miaoyou of Jietai Temple

Jietai Temple is in Mentougou, west of Beijing. I feel ashamed that this is my first time to go back to attend the ceremony where the great monk Miaoyou was honored as abbot and enthroned.

The weather is excellent today, the sun is shining, it is a good day. Later I heard that June 2nd was a special day. I didn’t go into details about why it was so special. At least it must be reasonable for people to choose this day as an auspicious day for the Dharma Assembly.

The pines in Jietai Temple are very famous, including Wolong pine, Pagoda pine, etc., which have their own unique charm. Since it was a special day for the Dharma ceremony, there was a red carpet on the ground, and there were quite a few Hollywood movie stars. It felt like walking on a red carpet, with guardians holding prayer flags standing on both sides of the carpet, which was very solemn.

We wandered to the main venue of the Dharma Assembly - the Chosen Buddha Hall. We entered the main hall and found chairs to sit down. There were huge crowds of people outside, which was quite spectacular. After a while, the crowd became noisy, and everyone looked under a yellow prayer umbrella. A fat monk and a group of well-dressed monks in yellow clothes and yellow robes came and entered the main hall of the Buddha Selection Hall, and the ceremony began.

After the ceremony, everyone was happy. The lucky ones can take photos with the abbot and his teacher, the eminent monk with a Buddha-like face, while I secretly look forward to tasting the famous vegetarian food of Jietai Temple as soon as possible.

The vegetarian food of Jietai Zen Temple is really well-deserved, and the cooking is very particular. For example, the appearance of the braised pork with pickles and vegetables is very similar and lifelike, but when you put it in your mouth, the fat and thin ones taste different. Absolutely amazing. There are also fish nuggets and so on, each of which has its own highlights. The last thing I want to mention is that the plaque of this vegetarian restaurant in Jietai Temple was inscribed by Master Huang Zhou, which is also a treasure.

Presumably, Mr. Huang Zhou was in a good mood after tasting vegetarian food here. He wrote the name in a letter with great satisfaction. It must be the old man's proud work! < /p>
