How to generate stl files

Select the format in the import dialog box and you will see many imported formats. 3ds max supports many file format import methods.

The supported import formats are:

Autodesk (FBX): (General)

FBX is an inherent file format of Autodesk MotionBuilder, which is used to create, edit and mix motion capture and keyframe animation. It is also a file format for sharing data with Autodesk Revit Architecture. You can use 3ds Max to import and export files in this format. Maya, Softimage and Toxik also use FBX format, which makes it a bridge between all these applications.

3D Studio grid (3DS, PRJ) (model only)

3DS is 3D Studio? (DOS) grid file format. Only model files and lights can be exported, and the uv of the model cannot be attached. This is a relatively rudimentary format.

Adobe Illustrator (artificial intelligence)

You can import files from Adobe Illustrator (AI88). Mainly the introduction of some vector lines.

Autodesk Collada (DAE)

FBX importers and exporters also support Collada (DAE) file format. It is generally recommended to export with fbx.

LandXML /DEM /DDF (DEM,XML,DDF)

In LandXML/DEM model generator, you can determine which parts of land development data will be imported into 3ds Max. Then, 3ds Max creates separate objects for each land feature, including terrain surface, road alignment and small plots of land.

Autocad drawing (DWG) (and cad conversion)

AutoCAD graphic format for import.

When importing a drawing file, a subset of AutoCAD, AutoCAD architecture (formerly known as Architectural Desktop) or Revit objects are converted into corresponding 3ds Max objects.

Original AutoCAD (DWG)

The new AutoCAD DWG/DXF import options dialog box has many improvements, including enhanced DWG compatibility, stronger user control and customization; However, some functions of DWG importer in the previous version of 3ds Max were lost. Therefore, 3ds Max retains the function of importing DWG in the past.

Flight studio OpenFlight (FLT)

OpenFlight? Format is often used in visual simulation systems. You can import and export OpenFlight files. Use Flight Studio? Tool, you can also create and edit objects and properties in OpenFlight files.

Motion analysis HTR file (HTR)

Motion analysis HTR (hierarchical translation-rotation) motion capture file format is another choice of bvh format, because it provides flexibility in data types and sorting. It also has a complete basic attitude specification, which consists of starting points representing rotation and translation.

The stored data are grouped by parts; Read all the actions in the first part, then the next part, and so on.

The HTR format contains four parts: head-up, segment name and level, basic posture and motion data.

IGES(IGE、IGS、IGES)

IGES files are used to import and export NURBS objects from 3ds Max (and other programs that support this file format).

Autodesk Inventor (IPT,IAM)

IPT and IAM are inherent Autodesk Inventor for parts (IPT) and sets (IAM)? File format. You can import two file formats into 3ds Max.

Lightscape files (lp, LS and other formats) (formats converted to and from LP)

Lightscape is a visual application that uses radiosity and ray tracing to create accurate lighting for 3D models. You can export 3ds Max scenes to Lightscape format or import Lightscape files.

OBJ- importer (obj) (export model in common format, supporting coordinates)

Support the import of related materials and maps. Support uvw coordinates, if the model is saved separately, it is a good choice.

3D studio graphics (SHP)

SHP is a 3D Studio (DOS) graphics file format. You can import these files into 3ds Max.

Stereolithography

STL file saves object data in a format for light curing rapid prototyping. The file extension of stl file is. STL。 This can be either ASCII STL format or binary STL format. When exporting a 3ds Max scene, you can select the objects to create.

STL files are usually used for rapid prototype model construction. Many methods use STL format to construct prototypes. For example, many STL machines use liquid crystal polymers and reinforce them on small pieces to create strong plastic models. Other STL machines use metal powder to create steel models. In addition, some machines use special wax.

Motion analysis file (TRC)

"Motion Analysis TRC" motion capture file format represents the original form of tracking output (ASCII). It contains a title part and an action part.

All tracking tags stored in TRC file contain global positioning data, but they do not share parent-child relationship.

When importing, 3ds Max will convert the incoming data into balls or points according to the tag name.

You can use the MACUtilities tool to convert the imported TRC motion into CSM format, so that it can be mapped to biped.

VRML (WRL,WRZ)

You can import VRML 1.0, VRBL and VRML 2.0/VRML 97 files into 3ds Max. 3ds Max imports geometry, materials (including texture maps), lights, perspective cameras and viewpoints, transformations and grouping nodes created by VRML tools. These objects can be edited, modified and animated as long as they are in the scene file.
