How to take a photo that can tell a story with emotion?
My interests are landscape and portrait photography. During the trip, I especially like to talk with local people and take them as my models, because both the faces of local people and traditional costumes are telling the stories of their ancestors. I hope to record these ancient traces with my lens before they disappear.
Every time I walk along the dusty country road on the India-Pakistan border, I can't get rid of the impression of unstable situation in this area. You know, walking through this place full of war smoke and smoke is actually very risky. Not to mention the barracks, truck convoys and fortifications along the way, which always remind you that war is around.
Wait patiently for the opportunity to come.
If you can visit this place in June+10, 5438, you will get the magnificent rural autumn scenery in return. I had planned to come here to take some different scenery photos in this colorful season, but it was a pity that I came too early. So there are two choices before me. One is to wander around here for a week or two, and the other is to go home and then come back. Finally, I decided to stay and use this time to relax and see if there are any interesting stories in this secret place.
The following story happened on the last day of my trip. I wandered aimlessly as usual, expecting a special moment.
In a few days, this place will be closed for half a year, and at this time, I feel lost because I didn't take photos that satisfied me. But when I was wandering, I happened to notice a woman sitting by the window of a simple wooden house. She looked so sad that I was even attracted by this inexplicable emotion.
Note: you need permission to shoot in this place. It is best to ask the local tour guide to follow. The following photo was taken outside her home. At that time, people from the local village and my translator stood next to me, while the woman looked at me from above. After taking this photo, I have an impulse to talk to her and try to encourage her.
Follow your intuition and let the story unfold naturally.
You may not think that when I walked into the room, my first thought was that this was an excellent place to test the poor lighting performance of my new camera. The indoor light is dim, only one corner has a cooking fire, and the rest are dominated by dirty and chaotic elements. When I entered the room, the woman looked surprised and began to try to communicate with me in sign language. I didn't realize that she was deaf until now. At the same time, I also felt her hostility towards me. It seems that I have to give up the idea of letting her be my model.
However, I was unwilling to leave like this, so I sat down opposite her with a smile and showed her my camera, trying to make her understand my purpose and eliminate her fear of me. You know, most people who live here are usually hostile to strangers' visits. I tried to ask if I could take a picture of her in sign language, but unfortunately, I am a complete novice in sign language, and this woman still can't understand me. At this time, my heart is urging me to take some photos and leave quickly. After a period of stalemate, I still had to give up the opportunity to contact her.
They say there is no way out without doubt. To my surprise, just as I was about to get up and leave, the woman's mother came in and explained the story about her daughter to me. As mentioned earlier, my daughter is deaf and dumb, and she suffers from mental illness at an early age. Their life is very difficult now, and there is no one else at home. Just when my mother talked about the most emotional, I recorded this touching scene with the lens. When I want to leave, all I can do is give all the money in my pocket to this poor family.
Looking for the most touching part of the story
Although I left this wooden house with a heavy heart, when I turned around, I saw my daughter smiling at me from the window, so this rare smile finally became the best photo of my trip. So, if you can keep an open mind and follow your intuition, you can also find such stories on your journey.
At this moment, every time I look back at this photo, I can feel its powerful power. Her instantaneous smile can be said to be born for me, and I even think that maybe my arrival has brought some small changes and differences to her life. Her smile is so sincere that I can't wait to go home and record this story. This story awakened my heart and forced me to share it with everyone, whether I like it or not. I want people all over the world to know that she exists. I believe this is what every photographer who takes such precious and unique photos like me will do. So, don't be afraid of danger, explore those unknown places bravely and look for those moving stories that are unknown. Trust me, you won't regret it.
