Chen Man lived in an alley next to Dashilaner when she was a child. She was the only child in the family. Unlike other students, Chen Man learned to draw at an early age. When I was 2 years old, a mouse jumped out of my house one day. The taciturn Chen Man picked up the strokes. My mother saw it and thought it was good, and then sent her to the Children's Palace to learn painting. She must have inherited her father's artistic genes. Dad painted billboards at that time-billboards in the early 1980 s were not printed, but were painted with gouache pieces and then put together. Now it seems that the nature of father and daughter's work is the same, and they are all related to fashion, graphic design and people, but dad's work is domestic cosmetics, while Chen Man is Chanel and Shiseido.

Dad is kind to her, but the mother who is a doctor is much stricter. Chen Man wrote in his blog: "I was born with an angry face, but I didn't mean to. This is what I look like. My mother always hits me in the face with my dad's art ruler every day, which makes my face tense, my mouth keeps going down and my eyes keep looking up. " Because of her strict mother, Chen Man's art class never stopped, so that she was admitted to the middle school attached to the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the senior high school entrance examination.

In her sophomore year, she naturally yearned for freedom. She dropped out of the Stage Art Department of the Central Academy of Drama and was admitted to the School of Design of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the same year. During this period, she worked in graphic design outside the school. These experiences have enabled her to experience academic professional training such as traditional painting, graphic design, architectural design, stage art and photography. In Chen Man's words, these are her basic skills. Later, she became a professional photographer because of her persistent interest in vision and people and a little understanding of fashion. Chen Man thinks that vision is not only what the naked eye can see, but the most important thing is the creator's inner ideology, sensitive nerves, rich emotions and appropriate talents.

Her photography career is obviously divided into three stages. PS technology was widely used in the early stage of Youth Vision, which was full of colors; Later, I went back to the beginning. I was good at minimalism and realism in one-inch photos. People gave me the "Master Yi Lamp"-only one lamp was used to light it, and there was no later stage; After that, there are many possibilities to create freely and try photography.

The cover series of Youth Vision is the "first stage" of my creation. Under the habit of art and technology enthusiasts at that time, I mainly talked about it later. There are different comments in the fashion circle, saying, "Never let Man Chen shoot". I realized that I had violated the emotional body of inertial karma security-including what still exists now, so I suddenly jumped to the "second stage", which is the big photo. For a time, "Master Deng Yi" came here like this. At that time, under the aesthetic environment of soft Ruili chasing foreign models, the lamp I used was the simplest, and the composition was the same, that is, an inch photo and a big face. There is no end, only face. Then the environment was shocked again ... at that time, no one was filming like me. What I wanted was a direct, direct, direct, honest and simple existence, without adjectives and nonsense. So far, I have been explaining myself in visual language.

In the eyes of many people, Man Chen has been successful enough. Li Bingbing once said with envy that Man Chen was the most successful post-80s generation, because she not only held exhibitions in Hongkong, Paris, Beijing and Shanghai, but also was the mother of two children.

Man Chen's husband Raphael is a Chinese-American mixed-race and one of the lead singers of the Earth Citizen Band. Raphael and I were poor when we first got together. One is taking avant-garde photos, and the other is skateboarding. In the eyes of normal people, they are all unreliable post-80 s art youths, and there is no tomorrow today. Chen said: I think young people nowadays are a little detached. Actually, it's like falling in love. If you like someone, you will firmly like him and you will love him. Don't doubt that he will love you without doubt. This is a relative thing, just like your job. If you throw a lot of question marks at work every day, then career feedback will also be a question mark. You can't measure everything by money, because money is just a number. Like the earthquake in Japan, everything in the supermarket is sold out. What's the use of that money? That's the truth.
