Extended data

Xi 'an City Wall is the largest and most intact ancient city wall in China.

The existing city wall was built in the Ming Dynasty, with a total length of 13.7 km. It was founded in Ming Taizu Hongwu for three years (1370) and completed in Hongwu for eleven years (1378). It was established under the guidance of Ming Taizu's policy of "building high walls, accumulating grain and becoming a king slowly" on the basis of the imperial capital of Sui and Tang Dynasties.

Zhu Yuanzhang, the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, conferred the title of the second son, Zhu _, as the king of Qin, and the princes and the imperial court were all in the same city, so the old city was grand and solid. In addition, the Ming and Qing dynasties have been repaired and added many times, and it has been well preserved so far.

At the beginning of 2004, the Great Wall Project of Guanghuangmen Section in Xi 'an started construction. Entrusted by the relevant departments, Shaanxi Ancient Architecture Design and Research Institute (now Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics) cooperated with the project to conduct archaeological investigation on the exposed wall section, and found that its structure was complex, spanning Sui and Tang Dynasties to modern times, and it was built after five great times.
