Gulangyu Photography Exhibition Hall is located in the former site of Gulangyu Water Supply Company, No.24 Zhangzhou Road. This company is a model of multicultural exchange, collision and mutual learning created by returned overseas Chinese groups in Gulangyu in the 20th century.

The photography exhibition hall is a professional photography exhibition hall integrating exhibition, popular science education and academic research, and it is also an innovative attempt to protect and utilize cultural preservation buildings in Gulangyu.

Gulangyu Island is also the frontier of photography in China. Lin Zhen, a native of Fujian, 1847 set off from Gulangyu Island and went to the United States to study silver photography. He brought Gill camera and photography back to Gulangyu in 1849, and became one of the pioneers of photography in China.

The exhibits in the museum include Giloux Silver Camera1∶1model, Siemens digital model interactive system of water equipment produced by non-contact surveying and mapping, virtual pilot exhibition of holographic warehouse, photographic optical experience, animation exhibition of Lin Zhen's story and 32 camera collections of various periods, which show the development of photography technology in a popular way and outline the century-old prosperity of Gulangyu Island through an old photo of Zhang Zhengui.
