Background of lunar gravity field map

In the previous exploration mission, scientists measured that the gravity of the moon was only about one-sixth of that of the earth. In order to collect relevant data, the two washing machine-sized detectors flew in formation, skimming over the surface of the moon for about 35 miles. This orbital motion helps the probe to peek into the deep structure inside the moon.

According to the relevant information provided by NASA, they drew an accurate map of the lunar gravity field, in which red represents the strong gravity field and blue represents the weak gravity field. This will help researchers to study the internal structure and composition of the moon in more detail.
