What is the function of focal plane mark in SLR camera?

That symbol is on the same parallel with the photosensitive original, that is, the position of the nominal photosensitive original, which was used for focusing estimation in the film age, and the nearest focal length of the lens was calculated from that symbol. The current lenses are generally AF and MF, which are only used for macro shooting or manual pan/tilt.

This is only useful in MF, which can be used to focus accurately (or look at the eyes)
