What are the light distribution methods?

There are butterfly lights, ring lights, Rembrandt lights, split lights, backlights and so on.

1, butterfly lamp

Butterfly light, usually called Paramount light, is a common lighting method used by female movie stars in early Hollywood studios to shoot movies or stills. The method of butterfly light distribution is that the main light source is above the lens optical axis, that is, right in front of the human face, and casts a shadow under the nose in a butterfly shape, which brings a certain layering to the human face.

2. Ring light

The name of ring light comes from the ring shadow around the subject's face, which is slightly modified on the basis of Paramount lighting, and is very suitable for shooting common oval faces. To achieve the effect of a circular lamp, start from the position of the butterfly lamp, and then move the light source slightly to the right or left, but the position of the lamp must be high enough to cast an appropriate arc shadow under the cheekbones.

3. Rembrandt lamp

The most important feature of Rembrandt's light is the "triangle on the cheek". Rembrandt lamp is like a more dramatic ring lamp. The nose shadow is connected with the shadow of the cheek, and then a triangular area is formed on the cheek.

Step 4 split light

Split light, also known as side light, is a very suitable lighting method to create a mysterious atmosphere. Its setting is very simple, we just need to put the light on the side of the subject and leave half of the model's face in the shadow.

5. Backlighting

Backlight, also called contour light, is very suitable for separating the subject from the background and highlighting the outline. For this light setting, the light source should be placed behind the subject and then tilted to the back of the head. This auxiliary light source can also be more powerful than the main light source illuminated from the front, thus obtaining more drama.
